Ringo WAS in this Band, nobody had body moves like him. It was his left handed-backwards style that was so unique. At their shows every night they featured him solo as "Starr Time". He was famous before the other Beatles.

@@danduntz9112 Rubbish. If that were true they wouldn't have waited TWO YEARS to replace him. Pete was a great drummer. But hey, don't take my word for it. Here's what a contemporary drummer of Pete's said when he was asked in an interview what he thought of Pete's drumming: *"He was a genius. You could sit Pete Best on a drum kit and ask him to play for 19 hours and he'd put his head down and do it. He'd drum like a dream with real style and stamina all night long, and that really was The Beatles' sound, forget the guitars. I was amazed when they replaced him. I even thought about learning guitar so he could be the drummer in my band. The Beatles didn't hate Pete Best, but they didn't want to be outshone by their drummer. Ringo was a good drummer but he was more ordinary."* -- Chris Curtis, drummer for The Searchers, a great Liverpool band who scored a 1964 Top 3 Hit in the US charts with their classic, "Love Potion # 9". Chris saw Pete Best play many times in both Hamburg and Liverpool during Pete's two years as The Beatles' drummer.

@@Michael-zg8qw It looks like a Lety Drummer but his head is too fat for Ringo, Narrator says the band has been together for seven years, InterNet: Storm, born Alan Caldwell, formed Rory Storm & the Hurricanes in Liverpool in 1957. Originally calling themselves the Raving Texans, they changed their name to Rory Storm & the Hurricanes in 1959. that makes this at least 63, and even though it does not sound like the Beatles have been invented yet which is probably intentional, there was that one Beatles Screaming Girl, maybe Rory did not want it advertised Ringo was in the Band and live off of that, always wonder, did I make it or was it my brief connection to Ringo that did it, maybe a management decision but they definitely do not talk about the biggest band in the World that just came from that same (Liver)pool of bands. Maybe no one knew that you could do that except Pete Best, build a career on being next to a Star for a while. At the same time, parallel thought, they made sure they did not show the Drummer except that Left hand grip look for a brief moment and at the end again for a split second. This is also very 50's sock hop sounding, I don't think it would have flown in the British invasion, and it obviously did not. Cheers! 🍁

This was shot on June 18, 1963 for the television documentary called "Beat City". It included most of the original members on the Hurricanes (Ty Brian, Johnny Guitar, Lou Walters and of course Rory Storm). As this was done in 1963, Ringo is not on the video (he joined the Beatles in August 62). Their drummer is here Keith "Keef" Hartley, previously from the Thunder Beats. Nevertheless, I believe they're miming their Oriole Recording of "I can tell" whose drumming is Brian Johnson though (he left the hurricanes a few weeks before the shooting to join Mark Peter and the Silouhettes. The girl seen talking about Rory Storm is Pat Davies who would marry Johnny Guitar's brother shortly after. I find it amazing that, after all these years, people are still debating whether or not it is Ringo playing the drums. If we stick to the facts, this clip is from a series of documentaries filmed by Daniel Farson for ITV in the latter half of 1963. The first wave of Merseybeat groups including The Beatles and The Searchers had all moved on by this time and Farson ended up filming Rory Storm, Earl Preston, Chick Graham and Farons Flamingos - all bands that missed out. Ringo left The Hurricanes in August 1962 to join The Beatles so we can be 100% certain that it isn't him in this clip. As to who it is, Keef Hartley joined The Hurricanes around this time so it may well be him, but I would also suggest that it may be Trevor Morais who also played with the band around this time.

I would say that after a while being that RORY STORM and the Hurricanes only played other peoples music both onstage and on recordings - It sort of became their end - I wish that they would have wrote some of their very own songs - then there may have been a chance they would have lasted longer ! Top group in Liverpool was The Big 3... The Remo 4 were the best musicians. Pete was the Beatles, none of the great Lennon& Mac songs had been written at that time. They exaggerated that claim. There were many Liverpool bands who didn't want to be like the Shadows and didn't do any choreography. The Remo Four were Liverpool's top instrumental group but hardly did any choreography. Their guitarist Colin Manley said “I’m glad we never did the walk, I couldn’t do it and play at the same time”.

You listen to early Beatles , they learned to play off the Hurricanes! Lennon has the same style as Johnny guitar even as far as All My Lovin'. good stuff

It is definitely Ringo. The documentary this clip is from shows both John and Paul hanging out just offstage by the piano and Coke stand.
