This reminds me of my dad. I took my father flying when I first passed my test. He didn’t even know that I had been taking lessons and as far as he’s concerned, he thought we were going on a pleasure flight with a pilot. When I started the plane up he said “don’t be so bloody stupid, where is the pilot?”. I said, “I’ve seen them doing it on the television, there can’t be much to it” I don’t think he thought that we were going to go flying until I called air traffic control (this was at Liverpool before it was as commercial as it is now) for taxi clearance. In the one hour flight, he never said a word. When we landed he asked when we were going again. We never did and he died in 1989. This I have tears in my eyes and a big lump in my throat as I write this. I just wanted to share. Take care everyone

Your wife is quite right, most people have and never will fly in a helicopter. I once flew from Yarmouth out into the north sea visiting two to drop off people and landing on a third oil rig where I worked for 24 hours, flying back the third day. Ex RAF, flown a lot in helicopters, heavy lift ones. Buzzing along a hundred foot up above the M4 was good fun, feet hanging in the slip stream waving at the children on way to do an air display at Fairford was memorable. Also hedge hopping around the South Downs. Going weightless in a helicopter was fun, took my office crew out for the experience. Flying around Falklands was fun, few rules and interesting country. Helicopters are about the best fun you can have with wings strapped on. Have fun.

My last copter flight was from Vegas to the Grand Canyon on the Eurocopter 135 in '13. It was amazing, I sat in the front on the way into the canyon and in the back on the way back to Vegas. I've flown in a few other copter types--the Robinson R44, a Bell (with the bubble cabin) and a traditional Bell, I believe the 206. Copter flight, as your video shows, is so exciting and your spouse is blessed to have a husband who flies. I have flown fixed wing and ultralight trikes since '06--the trike, having no cabin offers views like a copter.

Hi Rory. I loved that. Lizzy was clearly enjoying it. I was full of butterflies all the way. I don't know why that was. I've flown in a jet ranger over the lava flows on Hawaii. Close enough to feel the heat. But my one big claim to fame, is actually 'flying' a Spitfire. Not just any old spit. It was the grace spitfire. My son's best mate is Rich grace. Carolyn's son. Heard of her? You are a natural Rory. Dave

I have and that’s very cool - I’d love to fly a spit - but who doesn’t! I’m glad you enjoyed this video - cheers.

Flew into Leicester today with the trusty C42 wow pretty busy with rotary traffic from the heli centre. Saw a couple of 44s on the ground was looking our for you

Nice one - it is pretty much non stop at helicentre. I wasn’t there today I’m afraid - I was working on audio projects at home. Glad you had a good flight.

Great video as ever Rory! Glad your wife enjoyed the flight! Can't wait till I can take mine out for the first time. A while away yet! I may of been lucky to be in two helicopters but never actually flown in one. Sea king and a AW101 Merlin. Unfortunately the exercise with the Merlin was called off due to weather 😭
@RoryOnAir3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, I’m glad you enjoyed it. That’s a shame about the Merlin - mega machine. I can’t wait to fly the big machines one day.

Can't fault Lizi for not ever have been in a helo before. Many people are familiar with air travel by plane, but few have experienced a flight via helicopter. That's one of the benefits to flying fixed wing over rotary wing, you don't have to worry about constantly keeping your hand on the collective.
@RoryOnAir3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s a bit more ‘hands on’ but great fun. I was being a bit tongue in cheek about Lizi not having been in one before. Thanks for watching .

Cromer (Northrepps) should be just about an hour for you, we have a cafe and it is easy to go on to the Cromer town, could add the interest by flying over the Wash if you wanted. Helicopters are welcome (we get the air ambulance dropping in sometimes).

Great shout. Lizi was born in Sheringham so I’m sure she’d like to visit the area again.

Great video Rory proud moment taking Lizzie how about the Petwood Hotel at Woodhall Spa as a landing destination. The hotel has great lunches and is steeped in 618 squadron the Dambustrs history as they used this as their improvised officers mess in the war. The hotel even keeps the bar where they had a few tipples and is a memorial to them. Hope to fly into Leicester this Monday with the C42 so thanks for all the great videos keep up the great work. Chris

A great video as always Rory. A bit sad to see Bruntingthorpe runway so full of cars.

Thanks John, I agree. I always feel sad seeing airfields that are no longer in use as an airfield.

Great video :) That was the (my) flying club which sublets from the LAA, I can imagine the raised eyebrows at the GoPro selfie :)
