Cold Chisel band members are- Jimmy Barnes- Lead Singer and front man ; Ian Moss- Lead Singer & Guitar; Phil Small- Bass; Steve Prestwich- Drums: Don Walker- Keyboard & Band Leader and main writer of songs, but they all write. Bow River was written by Mossy, When the War is Over by Steve. Jimmy was born in Glasgow, he was 5 when he arrived in Adelaide with his family, but still has an accent. Steve was born in Liverpool UK and was about 17 when he came here with his family the other 3 were born here in Aus. Enjoy

Your appreciation of Australias most loved band is endearing you to us all. Both Jimmy and Ian share the lead, but all of the others also take the lead occasionally. The band has it all, great musicians, great song writers and great singers. Now you need to also discover Australias favourite solo rock artist, John Farnham. He is close friends with these guys especially Jimmy Barnes. He has also done the most amazing covers of this song and his range is even wilder... I would love to hear you react to John singing this same song. Choose a live version. There is even one where John and Jimmy sing it together. I think you'll get a kick out of listening to two of the most powerful singers in Australia singing this song togther

Your view of Chisel are spot on. The fact you picked up all the diversity in the band is incredible. All 5 band members wrote amazing songs and the feel of the band would change with each members influence. Loving your travel down the rabbit hole. - live is always best thought quality of some songs is affected by how old they are. Next stops on your trip - Khe Sanh, Four Walls, Star Hotel, Goodbye Astrid, - if you want some super smooth Mossy 'Georgia on my Mind' . Enjoy

G’day Bugs, Daffy here. Jimmy was born in Scotland but migrated to Oz as a toddler or pre school age, anyway. Most of Australia’s rock / pop Superstar singers were born in the UK and arrived here on the same ship as 10 pound Poms. Also the same voyage....... Jimmy, John Farnham, Billy Thorpe, The Bee Gees, Little Pattie and her cousin Christie Amphlet ( The Divynals ), Harry Vanda and George Young ( The Easybeats ) and George’s younger brothers......Angus and Malcolm Young ( AC/DC ), and many more........ so many on that voyage most didn’t even meet each other until they made it in the music industry. lol
@fayel5992
@fayel5992 Жыл бұрын
Hi Kent, for your information, they didn’t arrive on the same ship, Jimmy arrived from Glasgow to Adelaide in 1961, John Farnham arrived in Melbourne from England in about 1959, Bee Gees from England, arrived in Brisbane about 1957/8. Harry Vanda (stage name) born Netherlands, met George, Angus & Malcolm Young in a Sydney migrant hostel in 1963. The Young brothers were from Glasgow. Billy Thorpe.was born in Manchester in 1946, not sure when he arrived here. Little Pattie was born in 1949 in Paddington, Sydney and Chrissy Amphlett was born in 1959 in Geelong, Victoria.
@Rassskle

@@fayel5992 It was commonly reported since the 1960’s that they did all arrive on the same voyage.......also that most of them did not actually meet on the ship itself, but mostly through the music industry afterwards. Obviously some would have met if on the same voyage , but considering the size of the passenger list and the varying ages, it is easy to accept that most or at least many , did not meet on the voyage itself. If it is true that they arrived on different voyages, then the Australian media and music industry both lied about this for over 50 years........ not hard to believe. Honest reporters and experts are mostly unemployed or pushing trolleys around their local supermarket. lol

@@fayel5992 Thank you for the info on Christie and Little Pattie....... I was never 100% on which 1960’s singer was Chrissies cousin and guessed on Little Pattie, but they were also reported to be on the same ship. lol There were many more I forgot to mention but remembered later........ As for me, I am still confused as to who plays rhythm for The Rolling Stones...... Is it Keith Richard or Keith Richards ?

Jimmy barnes ( curly haired guy in wild thing, singer with the incredible range, second singer in Bow River and when the war is over, and lead in flame trees) Ian Moss, great singer and guitarist, took the lead in bow River and when the war is over. Cold chisels style is incredibly diverse as you'll see as you listen to more from them. Jimmy and Ian are both still singing and I've been lucky enough to see the both live on a number of occasions plus was in the audience for the performance where wild thing was recorded. Always brilliant live. These days I get to attend their concerts with my adult children....so cool. Instead of being brought up listening to the wriggles they were introduced to cold chisel and other great Aussie bands from birth

Jimmy wouldn’t mind you saying he reminds you of Aretha Franklin. His early influences were the soul singers Aretha, Tina Turner etc. He said when he was 7 he was struck by Mahalia Jackson singing soul that he decided then that if he has a daughter he was gonna call her Mahalia, which he did. You can KZbin Mahalia Barnes, she has her own music career, worth a look.

I'd love to see what he thinks of that duet. Jimmy Barnes = male equivalent of Tina Turner. He needs to do more Chisel first though -- and then he can get onto Jimmy's solo stuff and his duets. (Singing with Mossy trained him up well on the duet front.)

Been listening to Cold Chisel then Jimmy Barnes solo since the 70's - Jimmy's voice is amazing - he is still touring now - Jimmy was born in Scotland but came to Australia as a small child. So he is Aussie - and you should check out Cold Chisel's - 'You got nothin I want' and 'Breakfast at Sweethearts' and 'Flame Trees' - Then if you want to listen to Jimmy solo - 'I'd die to be with you tonight' or 'Working class Man' - or more recently an awesome track 'Stone Cold' featuring Joe Bonamassa

Just love his voice. You absolutely must listen to Jimmys Stone Cold with Joe Bonamassa (guitarist extraordinaire) You will definitely be blown away. His Do You Love Me (with the raw Josh Teskey) from just a couple of years back is fun and awesome at the same time.

Jimmy Barnes was born in Scotland so you were close with your Irish guess. He moved here when he was a “wee lass” but still has the accent!! Sorry you had to endure a poor sound version of Wild Thing! I’ve uploaded a remastered version today which is much better but a little late for your reaction! Enjoy your trip down yet another awesome rabbit hole. You’re right Jimmy has a ridiculous range of nearly 3 octaves and he is the lead singer although they do lots together too.
@its_Today_
@its_Today_ Жыл бұрын
Laughing here! Could be wrong (what a surprise ikr..). You just made me Google to double check but fair chance may be you meant to list Jimmy’s range as 4.5 octaves, least according to what I just read, I’m no musician so maybe that’s wrong? Actually, fairly certain I only learnt it was roughly 4 off one of your comments stating that originally, way back when 😅 Threw me thou.. Mind helping me out here, as She Who Knows All about the Boys 😊❤ Not that it truly matters, just confirmation of, kind of thing.. Cheers
@Dr_KAP
@Dr_KAP Жыл бұрын
I meant to put 3.5 I don’t know where my .5 went to, maybe it was too early in the morning 😝 Definitely not 4.5, Freddy Mercury sang 4 octaves. If you go off F2-B5 it’s about 3.5 octaves. The reason I would have said “nearly 4” on a last post is because those “google ranges” always underestimate the range as they include only official recordings and not live performances. They also usually don’t include covers unless the cover was recorded. I know Jimmy has gone higher than B5 in live shows.
@Dr_KAP
@Dr_KAP Жыл бұрын
@@its_Today_ also I should add that vocal range generally shouldn’t include falsetto and a lot of Jimmy’s high notes are in falsetto. If you include it, it changes things drastically!

I've just watched you react to "Wild Thing" then "Bow River" and now this. I don't know what order you reacted to them, but you're a bit confused as to who the lead singer is. Jimmy Barnes is the lead singer on a lot of Cold Chisel songs, but Ian Moss (lead guitar) is a mighty fine singer as well (check out his version of "Georgia on my mind", which might even surpass the great Ray Charles). The thing is that drummer Steve Prestwich (RIP) has also got a couple of solo albums out, and he has a great voice too. Cold Chisel are blessed with three great singers.

At about 4 minutes, you are almost exactly describing Cold Chisels song 'Khe Sahn'. This particular song is actually about the end of a relationship, not an actual literal war - but everyone's interpretation is their own. Not only was that girl in the crowd so into them she didn't see the camera - she almost certainly wasn't born when the song came out. You can see the appeal in EVERYONE in the audence, the age range is nuts and they're all in raptures. Sorry i wasn't there tbh.
