It's a testament to Rosa as an actress that she not only made us forget we were watching a CG character, but that she made us fall in love with Alita. Alita: Fallen Angel!

Rosa was the film's greatest feature, but credit still has to be given to the world class special effects team for keeping her presence through all the alteration. I don't think I've ever seen a film with such great CGI.

It's fairly rare for an actor to do such an amazing performance that the actor is identified strongly with the character. For years, people said "Sean Connery IS James Bond." And many people feel that Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine. And Rosa Salazar IS Alita: Battle Angel. And Rosa was indeed the greatest asset in the movie, which is saying a lot, considering that all the other areas were done very well. Rosa Salazar is probably the best reason for Disney to greenlight an Alita sequel, and she's also the best reason to think that there will be a sequel. Don't underestimate Rosa Salazar.

Really great piece - thanks doc - and demonstrates just how important getting the RIGHT person for any role is. You can see by the way Robert, Jon and James Cameron speak about her that they KNEW without doubt they had found their Alita - and when you look at the performance (as many times as all the fans have) you SEE just how much of herself Rosa put into the character. There are all the 'little' things too - the groggy voice when she first speaks with the Doc, the slightly nervous movements she has (as if getting used to a new body) - all these tiny details added up to making us believe so much in the character and her world. It is a wonderful performance by a very talented actress - as many have said - Rosa IS Alita and she deserves to play her again - very soon!

I saw a lot of different materials related to the creation of Alita. Still, I get the impression that there are moments that I haven't seen yet. I hope during this crisis related to the Coronavirus. No one from the cast will get sick and in the near future we will see the next part of Alita. Although I have some concerns. Ironically, a few weeks ago, in one of the groups devoted to Alita, someone expressed their fear, "what if war breaks out?". After all, we're just in that moment. It is sad when we realize how many people who are fans of the film who have died did not receive news about the fate of Alita. #Alitaarmy #Alitasequel #Alitaforever

Great article. Was not aware how much of Rosa was in Alita. Makes sense though. As you point out in this article, how much Weta has to do to capture all of Rosa’s subtle expressions and that they were able to do so is incredible. Thanks Doc! 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊

I just watched this movie for the first time and while there were some elements of the movie I didn't like (plot isn't the strongest but it's certainly not bad - Hugo's character I simply don't care for), Rosa's performance of Alita stands far above anything else in the movie. She did a fantastic job and is extremely likeable from the get-go. Loved her character in the movie very very much.

Now if they will only do a sequel. Rosa was amazing in the role of Alita,just like John Bernthal is the perfect actor to play Frank Castle in the TV show The Punisher. These clots made the personality theirs. I can’t see anyone playing Alita other than Rosa.

I really hope a sequel is made. It’s easily my #1 movie of all time. I’ve watched it 9 times so far. The movie makes me wish I was living in their world in the same scenarios; tbh their dystopian world looks way better than the world I’ve been living in at this point :(

Doc Ido You have just put into words why "Alita: Battle Angel" is not merely a significant step forward in technology, but the hard work by the people behind the technology and utilizing it, that achieved the masterpiece that the movie is. Looking at the movies nominated for the best visual effects Oscar got me scratching my head: none of them showed any technological advance approaching what Weta did, and none of them showed comparable skills in utilizing the technologies available to them. "Alita" was robbed.
