I saw an interview with Peter Gabriel done within the past 6 years maybe more recently than that... he said he wrote the song in a way so that it could either be about a lover or a religion . But he did not mention her . Maybe he forgot . Back when she was dating him it was when he was still married and it was quite a scandal in England . Maybe he chooses to forget that episode of his life .
