Gday from Australia Jerry! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every second of this 182 series. The skills you have shared are absolutely invaluable and I can’t thank you enough. I’m about to start my own very first mandolin build and you have given me the confidence to give it a go. I know it won’t be a scratch on yours but maybe I’ll have something to show you in the not too distant future. And you’ll know you’ve inspired a new generation of mandolin makers and players 😁❤️ Thank you so much again for sharing your exemplary craftsmanship!

Thanks again Jerry for all the hard work and dedication! Made it back to Louisiana safe and sound. I couldn't be happier with the mandolin. To all of those who may read this, the camera nor the microphone do the mandolin justice. It is awesome. But then again it couldn't help be anything but. If you are thinking of having one built, I recommend that you give Jerry the opportunity to build it for you. His patience and dedication to quality is second to none. And he didn't even pay me to say this! Truly he has become a good friend in this process! Merry Christmas to All.

It's a little late for Merry Christmas, so I'll say Happy New Year to you and to your crowd. This video series has been beautiful. If I weren't so darn old, I'd have to own one of these. For a brand new mandolin, this one sounded great during the jam session, even at a distance from the microphone. Fine tone developing already, and volume to spare. (I'm more into tone than to volume, but both matter.) So, keep filming! Your repair work surprises me in a good way. Fine!

A great result, all-the-way around, Jerry, to be gifted with the skills and ability to turn a few pieces of wood, nylon line/wire, assorted hardware, dyes/lacquers/enamels/glue, and a few other 'odds and ends', into an instrument capable of generating such melodic tones, is to be truly admired. As for the binding overspray situation, for many decades, aircraft manufacturers, sign shops/sign painters, and bus/truck manufacturers have used an item called "Spraylat Sign Strip", it is a 'sprayable and peelable' masking agent which is sprayed onto an area, allowed to dry (overnight), then marked with the desired lettering/artwork/symbol layout(s). Using an X-acto knife, or similar device, the area where the desired color is to be applied is cut along the tracing, then removed (and tacked-off). Paint is then applied, and while still "tacky", the remaining Spraylat Sign Strip is removed, revealing the desired result. It can even be used as a resist, when chemically etching glass, and some plastics. Sign shops which are capable of "painted lettering", versus that 'vinyl applique stuff', would most definitely have it; and would probably pour-off a quart for you. FYI: It does contain latex, so remember to use allergen precautions, if necessary.
@RosaStringWorks7 жыл бұрын
+AMStationEngineer thank you very much for the note. I don't know if the spray stuff would work very well on a mandolin especially up around the scroll area it's pretty hard to get down in there and it would be difficult to clean off what you want stained versus what you don't in those tight areas. Thanks very much for watching my videos. I appreciate the kind remarks. Happy New Year!

I used your yellow leather dye technique on my electric violin body. It didn't change the color much, but it made the color look richer with highlights in it. I like it a lot. For the main color, I used dark brown leather dye. I bought this dye before I saw this video and as luck would have it, it's the same brand as you use. My yellow, however; is not leather dye. It is yellow cake color. I experimented on a scrap piece of the same wood and found if you allowed the yellow to dry overnight that it would make the brown a richer color and just slightly lighter. Thanks for the tip. Oh I saw the tip in another of your videos, but it didn't show the brand of dye. Love the mandolin and great series of videos. However much you get for these mandolins, you deserve every penny.

Well, Congrats! It really is a great mandolin, a beauty with the voice of an Angel! I've listened to so many of your videos that I can hear the diference between this mandolin and the other majority, It does have a loud sound but, most amazingly it does have an even balanced sound between the diferente strings I would guess it tunes up perfectly. Great work. Amazing video set. There is nobody to touch you in you tube in your area of work. I only say this because for me it is more than an evidence, it's the TRUTH. Being a bit late to wish you a wonderful Christmas, I do it all the same as for us Christ is born EVERTDAY of our live not stoping to amaze us!

Ya know, I was just having a conversation the other day with someone about instruments like yours. If anyone have played ANY new Gibson instrument or any other big name in a while, they'll notice the workmanship is just no longer there like it used to be. Unfortunate for guys that hand build quality instruments that the price and resale value cant be as high. You know if someone sees a mandolin like this at a festival or some other picking, it wont get the same oooh ahhh factor as a Gibson or other. People just don't understand... The time spent and quality of materials and workmanship in your mandolin surpass anything from any factory out there these days. Nice work!
