I am the owner of this Regal Wreck/Reborn. I know my Father is smiling from above. He loved woodworking (he was a cabinet maker) and would be in awe of Jerry's skills and ability. I hesitate to call my self the "owner" of this guitar, for it now belongs to my family, Jerry Rosa, and all of you who have viewed and enjoyed this Regal repair. We share in its rebirth. I owe Jerry, big time, for he put much more into this Regal than I paid him. But that is Jerry. He puts his heart and soul into every repair; and it shows. And, he unselfishly shares his gift with each of us. I have read all the comments and am so happy that all of you have enjoyed this Regal guitar repair so much. I shall enjoy this guitar till I leave this world, and then my children shall continue in it's joy. That is the essence of this great gift from Jerry. Thanks, Tom

I watched Jerry's complete 2 part KZbin Regal guitar restoration project (you picked the right man for this job). Really liked the way Jerry ended the restoration of your Dad's guitar by playing it and singing (not bad vocals either). I am in the middle of restoring my old Hohner acoustical guitar. It was in storage and it too has not been played in over 45 years. I have a granddaughter that is interested and has an ear for music that I plan to pass this guitar to (my son plays an electric Fender guitar and doesn't care much for an acoustic). Glad to see that you restored your Dad's guitar and you plan to pass it on to his grandchildren.

I'm in awe. What a treat to watch a master craftsman work. It's especially meaningful because, as I said in my Part 1 comment, this was my Father's guitar. Family sentimental items are special. In 2005 our childhood home, where my Mother still resided, along with my late Father's workshop, was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and many old family items were lost. My brother Tom is very special and having the guitar restored so beautifully is a gift. Your priceless restoration will now be remembered as part of its legacy. Thank you, Kathleen Doran

You know, sometimes you come across some really compelling stories on the net. This one here was a tale well told. The cast of characters was set and the play unfolded before our eyes as it should. The wise and affable narrator weaved his magic: expertly raising tension just so; inserting a little drama with raised eyebrows; adding some levity to break the tone. At the end, even though there was little doubt about the final reveal, we were all treated to a really satisfying conclusion. I must come this way again. Thank you to all the players. Bravo!

This 2-part video most certainly fits into that "oddly satisfying to watch" category. Just stumbling across this video by accident, I began watching, thinking I would just watch a few minutes. I could not, however, find a place to stop and had to keep watching until the end. Mr. Rosa obviously has an old-world work ethic, down-home politeness, and shows genuine humility. His unpretentious style was a refreshing change from the "cooler than thou" attitude prevalent on all too many KZbin videos. I salute you sir! As for the 47 thumbs-down ratings (as of Sept. 2019), I can only say I pity these poor cynical souls who see the cost of everything but the value of nothing. As my grandfather was fond of saying, "You would complain if they hung you with a new rope." Thank you Sir Rosa for sharing your time and talent.

I was a welder in my past and had built fixtures for clamping with. And in restoring vintage musical instruments, I also used fixtures like vice's and adjustable strapping to include bungees and the like. I would like you push that on to us learners. I've restored odd shapes like guitars and bowl backs. I admire you skills.

Mass produced cheap musical instruments from 50yrs ago show up the modern counterparts and their far more inferior endurance in use. I can probably guarantee that any comparable guitar today would not make it through Jerrys workshop in 50 yrs time. Great video, I love watching someone spend time and energy renovating old antiques and making something work again. Over here in Blighty, we have a program called "The Repair Shop" on the BBC1 channel, if you like this kind of stuff you'll love it, I've shed a few tears from customers reactions to the end results.
@ThorneyedWT4 жыл бұрын
Actually if initial assembly was good enough (which is not always the case) modern plywood, glues, poly finish, plastics and all that stuff will be much more durable in the long run. Sadly it also makes modern guitars dull and they won't really age well. That is why high-end instruments are still made with fragile spruce and nitro finish (only that shrinking plastic was ditched for good). But don't discourage young players, if you are ok with how modern affordable guitar sounds, you can buy it and be sure that it will stay like that for very long time, unless you drown it or bash on somebody's head it bar fight.

Loved this vid. I’m a Berklee College grad and a good player, but late in life I got the Luthiery bug. I’ve built several and repaired a bunch. A friend recently said he “loved seeing me bring these old guitars back to life”. And that’s it. You don’t know the stories these old guitars have but you know they’re deep and varied. I always say to the guitar “well old friend, this strum is the first you’ve been heard from in decades.” I wasn’t sure why you were spending so much time on this old Regal, but then I heard the back story. At the moment it is a hobby, a budding business and I have learned much from this series. Thank you for your detailed analysis of each step and the "why" of your decisions. The bluegrass music was great too. I have played, written some songs, and been a musician since 1965. I love the guitar and most music. It is the voice of God to reach and lift our spirits! You are the ultimate repairman for any type of guitar/fix!! Your videos inspired me to take apart a 1950s Harmony Arch top and arch back with a neck pick- up, 1 vol, 1 tone . I used an OLD Metal SPATULA, to heat up and be gentle (I shortened my handle down, for better control) but after the clean up, I realized I had two angles of attack. It has two different radiuses if it it the off square, thin style. I took the back off first, since the binding was loose, The spatula helped me take the back off with ease! Gotta fix a lot of cracks. Thank you for your videos! I'll take pics, soon, God Bless!
