Thanks so much for putting this up. I saw Tony Marsh just a few times before his death - memorably with Evan Parker and John Edwards. The elegance of his playing stays with me. What a trio this was!

Thank you posting this important video of these three masters at work. I understand that Tony Marsh passed away not long after. Thank you again.

Sadly, Tony Marsh (drummer) died just a few months after this historic night. I bought the album unheard because I knew the work of Roscoe Mitchell from his stint with the Arts Ensemble of Chicago and he is also well known as one of the most influential saxophonist in the world today. It was when I googled "Tony Marsh, drummer" and read all of his accomplishments, that I realized England (and the world) lost a genuine treasure. RIP Tony Marsh and deep condolences to his friends and especially to family members.

Cafe Oto is in Dalston in the east end of london. Great little venue, just right for Roscoe

It is the venue where all the STUFF happens, where all the IMPROVISING goes down. :)

I hate to say it but this sounds like my first alto saxophone lessons in 4th grade. I went on to play All State and 1st chair University years later. But I think this is just messing around. Sort of like the direction modern art went with splashes of paint on the wall. Culture is deeper than this emoting.....reflects the ethical/intellectual dip in American society today in general. (I'm sure that he could do amazing things technically if he wanted to, so I'm not putting down his ability at all; but this is caterwauling....Google dictionary: make a shrill howling or wailing noise like that of a cat. "he seems to think that singing soulfully is to whine and caterwaul tunelessly" and that ain't racist, so don't go there. I'm a green guy myself from Jupiter.
