The casting for them was perfect. The movie had the characters perfectly done to the point that they could have stepped out of the pages of the book. In the books the Moroi are described as pale tall waif thin predominantly Eastern European. Rose was considered to be exotic her mother as shorter with short red hair but her father was one of the few Moroi who were darling, he had more of an Arabic or Egyptian feel to him he went by Zemi black hair olive skinned. Roses had his hair thick dark and alluring and was slightly olive complexed. Sonya Karp as she was cast for the movie looks and sounds much Like the books, Dimitri is perfectly cast as is Mason and Eddy with masons red hair and Eddie’s olive skin and hair much like rose. Even Queen Tatiana was a good casting choice. Their personalities are also spot on. The movie never should have been a movie it should have been a series that would have eventually introduced Adrian ivashkov, sydney sage, the alchemists, Jillian Mastrano, Natasha Ozera, and Angeline Dawes and the rest of the Keepers. Put politely the world they were trying to unpack and storytell was never going to fit in an hour and 30 minutes. They made the movie more straight up comedy instead of focusing on the relationships and setting and circumstances that naturally bred humor but also yielded a surprising amount of drama. The Moroi eye color is a huge thing as well Ivashkov Green, the Dragomir Jade, The ice blue of the Ozera, the Emerald of the Dashkov. The books are really specific about their origins and looks. Specifically the royal Moroi. The damphir’s tended to be much more diverse. Royals tended to only marry other royals. 12 royal houses that is still a hell of a lot of inbreeding over time. Moroi + Moroi =Moroi , Moroi+Damphir= Damphir, Moroi + Human=Damphir, Damphir+Human=Damphir. Damphir+Damphir combination results in no children as Damphir cannot breed with other Damphirs. In the quest to keep their species alive they must breed with Moroi. Human Damphir or human Moroi relationships tend to be rather a societal taboo. Most Moroi will not marry a Damphir or claim their children. The vast majority of the time it is the father who is Moroi. They are usually married and are simply cheating with Damphir women. For instance Dimitri’s abusive father who also fathered all of Dimitri’s sisters turned out to be Adrian Ivashkov’s uncle who was his fathers older brother who should have been the head of the Ivashkov family but was too much of a philanderer. The Damphirs tended to come from much more diverse backgrounds than the heavily European and predominantly eastern European Royal Moroi families. Damphirs tended to look much more human without the height of the Moroi or their thin frames. Damphirs tended to be athletic with the bit of vampiric blood giving them quicker reflexes a boosted immune system as well as an excelerated healing rate compared to humans. They also have voracious appetites and tend to consume a large amount of calories because in part to the amount of training they must do to become guardians. I love shows that honor diversity but not when it takes a book and instead of honoring the characters and world the as the writer who created it, it decides that it isn’t “black enough or have enough minorities in key roles or that portraying the Moroi as they are described as waif thin as people who live on blood, and very tall would be some form of body shaming.” The casting choices for the Moroi royals in the television series are abysmal and totally reject the authors vision. It also makes their origins and the development of their society and it’s involvement with the Eastern Orthodox or Greek Orthodox faiths seemingly vanish. They should have realized that yes the books series is huge but it isn’t a massive hub of diversity when it comes down to it. The species involved are primarily very very intermarried and that the Damphirs due to having at least one Moroi parent tended to also be pretty racially homogeneous, although there is much more room within the Damphir species for diversity given that they were created to protect the Moroi and at one time they were intermingling with humans until it was stopped because humans would threaten the very existence the Moroi and Damphir. So their world went underground. By that point both Moroi and Damphir had been having relationships with humans for generations thus increasing the diversity of the damphir population significantly. Damphir women are described as having larger breasts and way more curves than their female Moroi counterparts, who were described as beautiful but waif thin and small breasted having a perfect model’s physique. This doesn’t mean I despise the series I just think that the casting choices for the Moroi as well as some of the Damphirs who are very very specifically related to royal families or have a specific feature that is called back to repeatedly throughout the series roses long thick dark hair and masons red hair and blue eyes are an actual thing that gets mentioned a lot, just like Dimitri’s cowboy duster that he wears and the Louis L’Amour western novels he has a stock of that he reads. Also Mia isn’t a Karp, Mia’s name is Mia Rinaldi. Her parents worked for the Drozdov royal family until a strigoi attack on the family ended up killing her mother as well as a portion of the royal house. This is a huge deal because Karp is Emily Mastrano’s sister and Jillian Mastrano Dragomirs aunt she has zilch to do with Mia. Mia Rinaldi took her moms death incredibly hard which was part of the reason she went after the strigoi who did it with Mason Christian and Eddy and the others in the book frostbite. She felt guilty for years over masons death because she had been one of the ones to push to go after the strigoi and in they had almost gotten themselves rose eddy et all murdered. She redeemed herself by saving rose at the last minute in a fight with one of the strigoi I. Both Christian and Mia proved that maroi magic isn’t just for parlor tricks and can be used for combat. Mia moves to court and starts to train to become one of the new warrior Maroi. There aren’t enough guardians to watch after all maroi. A maroi has to be rich enough to hire their own guardians if they can even find any because trained guardians are pretty much assigned by the crown. or a maroi can potentially have any damphir children they might have can guard them but if they are a trained official guardian who has graduated they aren’t allowed to pick their own security assignments to giardiases they begin their service to the maroi but it is only to a post that is given to them they can’t choose their own path after they graduate, mosy trained guardians are going to go to protecting the Royals, the court, the schools, maroi only places like the ski resort or specific powerful and rich or influential maroi they typically leave the common maroi to deal with it in their own simply because there aren’t enough to go around. Read the books first, then the movie and then the series. Draw your own conclusions and enjoy the VA world. I might not be fond of the changes they made to some of the most prominent characters because I honestly don’t think they aren’t being far sighted enough to realize that a lot of those little details will end up being plot points or clues to future intrigue. I am excited that they finally realized a series was the only way to go with this and can’t honestly wait for them to either add in the bloodlines books or turn it into a spin-off.

The series actors don't have the same physical romantic chemistry as the actors on the movie. It is disappointing that new series Rose&Lissa are not "platonically" craving each other's touch. It does allow clearer relationship lines with others and more dialog between them to express their love for each other, instead of the physical touch.

​@@arielturner3932 chemistry and acting ability are not connected in any way. No amount of acting can make up a lack of chemistry in a on screen or on stage relationships. This is why screen/stage tests of cast members happen. It is something that exists off screen as well as on screen. The best Chemistry I have seen recently is Jenifer Lowrance and Chris Pratt in Passengers. You Watch an interview with them and the interviewer asks a single question and they take it for 10 minutes of joy just interacting with each other.
