Psychologist here- it’s very common for victims of rape have a “freeze” response (like an animal playing dead until the predator dissapears) versus a fight or flight response. It’s an evolutionary function, that if often misconstrued as consent.

I've never been raped and it pains me that I have to feel lucky for that. Unfortunately, I have been touched inappropriately and was emotionally abused whilst at Highlands Behavioral Health. I was searching for help for my depression and was instead traumatized even more. Whether it's sexual assault, or any other trauma, it is too painful to bottle it all up. I didn't talk about my experience because there is always this constant fear that's left breathing down my neck of what will happen if I speak. So to all of the assholes in the world who will say, "Well, why are they just talking about this now?" you don't get to speak!
