Tony you haven't bored me at all, but have made me once again realise how lucky I am to live in a beautiful but fairly sparsely populated area where there are no multi lane roads and no traffic lights, just a few roundabouts. I am in no danger of raised blood pressure due to the roads or number of people driving. I watch your videos and feel much blessed!

Agree with you 100% about this roundabout.I have lost count off the number of near misses i have had, going from Wrythe Lane to Green Lane in the last 7 years.
@tynkabell997216 сағат бұрын
And going back the other way. People get in the inside lane at the lights at Green Lane and go all the way round the roundabout to get into Wrythe Lane.

I used to live just down Bishopsford Road for years, and prior to the traffic lights and excessive road markings it didn`t seem too bad, so it seems to be these causing a problem. I moved away about 30 years ago so I rarely go there these days, except to see the in laws who live down Wrythe Lane, above those shops. I still don`t have a problem with it, and the only thing I miss about it, is popping into The Rose for a drink.

I think that you’re supposed to move out from the inside between the stop line at 8:21 and the stop line at 8:25 - it looks like the one lane that you’re in becomes three at that point!

Tony. I drive Rosehill almost daily and I'm consistently flabbergasted at the absurd lines everyone takes because of the poor structure of the roundabout and their negligence. I despise the light cycles and especially during rush hour when people block up the exits by jumping reds just to sit in a queue 2 metres in front. Alas all we can do is grit our teeth and pray we make it out unscathed. Love the videos and look forward to more shenanigans on Rosehill

I used to drive 157, 151 and S4, if we took right lane from Wrythe lane we would need to cut back in to enter Green Lane or St Helier Ave. I have answered this a few times Mr Tony, but the lane going right into Bishopfords Road is designed for Green Lane traffic. When you came from Green Lane you took the lane around to the right to access Wrythe Lane, however if you were going to Mitcham you would use that lane on the left and not have conflict with traffic turning right. That is what that lane is for, but drivers misuse it. If they removed that ability to take a right into bishopfords road then you would have issues as green lane traffic would have to join the traffic in lanes two and three.
@thelondondashcam16 сағат бұрын
I did say that buses get a pass being in the left lane and turning right, only because of their size. You must have seen so many people try to go down the A217 from lane 2 across you which is what I'm getting at in that clip. And as for people coming out of green lane going to mitcham they have got to merge into lane 2 anyway so why have that lane on the left for them to shoot down the inside and cut straight across people that are in lane two, doesn't make sense.

That looks like a nightmare of a roundabout, luckily for me we don't have roundabout like these here in New Zealand. All we basically have are single or double lane circular roundabouts without traffic lights. The drivers over here make those basic roundabouts seem difficult though.

I generally agree with how you take exit to Green Lane rather than viewers' advice as having to cross two/three lanes after coming around sounds daft. But I would not call this a rounadabout as it is not circular andctherecare so many roads joining it that a better description is a gyratory system. The othe point is that on roubdabouts or gyratory systems you do not go left, right or straight on, but you takecan exit - be it 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th or even 5th!! You would never hear an examiner say go left but theyd say take the first exit. All that can really be deduced iscthatvits isnt clear which is always the best lane to take and that you need to be always aware of other cars getting confused and having to change lanes unexpectedly.

Just wanted to say thank you for giving me advice on all the knobhead stereotypes on the road for my driving test. I did. come accross an Audi and it did have its self entitled wax on and came right up my arse. Really made me feel stressed but I had the best driving examiner ever and we talked about sports for the whole thing! I know you think you didn’t help me and it was all me, but those stereotypes unfortunately are true you bring up in your videos. Also made me aware of the speed I should use in narrow areas, especially where there’s knobheads!

17:51, this should only have two lanes ro start with. And then the rest also t wo lanes: way less conflicts. We Dutch would block it, rip the whole roundabout out and build a modern new one. We only one last such a shit roundabout in Nijmegen ( the city before the A Bridge Too Far city). But for now i see some some minor adjustments that could be done to make it more logical.

The second section is so frustrating Like you id take your person line, middle lane round merge over to the left to go down wrythe lane, but have you ever been stuck at the Lights just as you come round to lidl (other A217 end to mitcham) but then the A297 lights turn green and you get completely pushed away from merging left down to exit to wrythe lane. it’s an absolute joke and you end up going down towards angel hill/sutton instead as you get pushed to the middle lane

Only one answer, they have to do as they did all along the A40 in West London, out to Hillingdon, or Hammersmith Broadway or the Cherry Blossom roundabout near Fullers Brewery, Chiswick on the Bath Road (A4), underpasses or fly-overs for whatever routeing is considered to be the largest traffic flow. Will they have money to do it ? . . . nah . . Unikely at the moment. They'll be waiting for all the cars to go away and solve the problem for them, although the advent of Euro 7 emission standards next year may help . . . In making some of the cars go away. In the meantime, maybe overhead direction gantries may help directing people to the correct lane. as would closing-off some of the minor road entries to the roundabout.- my local nightmare 1970s roundabout (The one where the statement "Nicholas Parsons is the neo-opiate of the people" was scrawled on part of the hard shoulder wall) only has four feeder road entrances/exits.

It would be interesting to see if you could re-draw what you think the markings could be to improve it - but it also doesn’t help when an Audi won’t follow any marking or logic :D. I have had a look at the layout out of interest and you can kind of see why they’ve done it like this to serve all directions but it would only work if everyone followed the markings perfectly which doesn’t work in practise since the lanes look like they should work differently as you believe - also your common sense approach probably helps flow. You covered the two most contentious directions & I think your way is fine given the circumstances & behaviour of the road - you kind of have to do it this way when others are so it’s a self-sustaining rule. The ‘cut across’ shouldn’t be as extreme if done immediately / early rather than after the turn - but you can totally see why it’s not possible with other people not expecting you to do this and are in the left lane. On google maps history it looks like they tried to make the markings clearer (against your method) but it’s too little too late. Love the commentary & Ty for covering this roundabout further.

You talk about Audi drivers and self-entitlement wax, . . but in my view most of 'em are self-entitled. I mean to say who needs an SUV or 4 x 4 (Look-alike or real) driving round London. Its just status. The only people that may make good use of 4 x 4 capabities are the rebels in the Mid-East or the War- Lords in Afghanistan. All the 4 x 4s do in London is block roads, reduce visibility and confirm to all viewers that the Victorian. Edwardian and 1930s London roads were not built to accomodate such large vehicles. Most of them could do their journies in Citroen Amis or Fiat 500s and obtain reduced journey times. But there you go, status rules.

I've said that and the comnent after you said that. It's a gyratory system rather than a roundabout and especially here but also on roundabouts, you don't go left orcstraight on etc but take a certain exit, be it 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. It's a very fluid system as you go around. You need to becpatient and aware of other vehicles that may need to cross lanes ahead of you.

I'm glad I don't drive there! 🫨. If I remember correctly, in Colchester back in the 1970's, they tried experimenting with different layouts on one particular roundabout - doubles, quadruples, all temporarily created using tyres. The layouts seemed to change weekly, so every time you arrived, you had to learn a different route through it! Confusing as hell, but they eventually got the right layout... I think... 😆
