The Dresden-born soprano, Rosemary Gordon (1930-2002), moved to New Zealand at the age of twenty-two and made her professional debut in concert performances with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. Her operatic debut soon followed with the New Zealand Opera Company singing in THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, BARTERED BRIDE and THE MAGIC FLUTE. Her debut with Opera Australia came in 1966 with Leonora in IL TROVATORE, Liu and Donna Elvira. With the national company she went on to perform the two Elisabeth's - DON CARLO and TANNHAUSER, Pamina, the two Marinas - BORIS GODUNOV and SCHOOL FOR FATHERS, Amelia in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Desdemona, Fidelio and the Marschallin. She is heard here in the final movement from the Verdi REQUIEM from a performance at the Civic Theatre, Christchurch, New Zealand on September 25th 1970.
