HAHAHAH which version did you watched? Like the comment ive pinned under this video, there are two kind of ending, one where shu nian is dead is bad ending, and where he survives but with scar on his face and crippled legs. That one is happy ending because they ended up together, and more continuation is actually in the novel where he later went through the operation to remove scar on his face and went through rehab to be able to walk normally though i cant remember if he managed to get his crippled legs fixed.

He was way too possessive and honestly it was such a toxic relationship for Shu Nian and his happy ending should’ve been him getting a different boyfriend and an actual happy ending rather than what happened. You are right not to watch Grey Rainbow. I was so happy with the progress in the drama and I didn't even know it had a sad ending. It caught me so off guard. It was really a masterpiece of a story but it made me cry like a baby. I was in disbelief because until that point every thing was going well and in last 5 min they decided to end it like that. I think it’s interesting the way the movie is set up to have different endings to appeal to I guess different people. The series makes it much better of a romance as they have toned down xie nian's character a lot and also didn't make ke luo's character terrible unlike the books, xie nian's homophobia isn't as pronounced in the series as it is in the novel either, I loved the series soooo much more❤❤❤
