Thank you! Remember my Mom made this dress for all us girls, and herself from flour sacks she collected. Neighbors gave them to her also. She too made the pattern. Added lace, for Sunday best. Also embroidery on added collars or sleeves. She was so clever. Raised 13 kids, 4 of those were neighbors. I never heard her complain. She sang beautiful love songs or hymns as she cooked, cleaned, or hung many lines of clothes to dry. Removing our dresses while still damp to press them. Amazing.

I am wearing my dress, which I finished yesterday :-) Thank you so much for uploading!! Some advice for those giving it a go: - cutting the fabric pieces along the grain-line of the fabric - if you have less than a B-cup the darts aren't really needed, but if you leave them out the pattern doesn't line up fully, so I had to recut some areas. I made a sleeveless version with a bodice, as shown in another video and it worked out well! Great tutorial, thanks so much for sharing.

@@eve9490 Hi! I tried to find it but it's been a little while so I can't remember. I thought it was a Rosary Apparel video but I couldn't find it here. You can search it on youtube "sleeveless bodice with lining" and there will be loads of videos. From memory, what I did was: - create a second replicate bodice (which is your lining) and eventually hide all rough/ overlocked edges between the two bodice pieces by turning it inside out. - I think it was all flipped using the "burrito method" 😄 - You don't need the neckline, as you will have a beautifully tucked in edge around the neck (because of the lining). Good luck & have fun! It's a really pretty dress, which I wear often. I might chuck a pic on Insta sometime soon! xx

I'd love to try making this dress. Am seriously pissing myself, though, as the last time I tried to sew anything using a sewing machine was more than 30 years ago and only extended to shortening a couple of trousers. Dress? Nope. Mum once tried to teach me (I was about ten) and I stomped off in a major meltdown over the fiddly bits. No patience. That said: is it difficult to change the opening to the front, and then using hooks or little buttons...? I know, I should probably not attempt to make any changes when it's the very first thing I try...

It looks super cute! I think the collar might've looked better if you understitched instead of topstitching, but I love the pockets.

The dress looks gorgeous. I love it. I would like to make it in a slightly heavier brushed cotton for winter in the UK and also have long sleeves. What do you think about that. Love your channel.

Thank you for the video and pattern. I've never sown, but I want to learn. Could you please do a video for beginners? I would love to hear what items you consider essential to start with and what stores you recommend as well as brands. I don't even have a machine yet, but I would love some guidance on that too. Your videos are inspiring me to try.

If you are looking for a series of tutorials on sewing for the beginner look up Savi's Fashion Studio on KZbin. She runs a free online seeing school as well as a brick and mortar one and covers everything from choosing a machine to using it, designing a sewing block (bodice patfern) to your measurements, making the ideal arm scye, necklines, sleeves et cetera et cetera. I have been seeing using ready made patterns for years but I now design, and sew, for myself, my daughter and friends. Found her channel by accident but it's the best one there is. And she will answer your queries as quickly as possible.

Thank you so much! I was a bit afraid to start sewing from a pattern as I sometimes dont have a clue what is meant with (for example the dart) lines. Thanks to this tutorial you are guiding me! And I cant wait to start sewing my own made dress! love from the Netherlands :D

Thanks for your lovely comment! I’m so happy you’re going to have a go at making my dress! Also, it’s so cool you’re watching from the Netherlands! (my grandparents were from there) 😊

The dress is finished! :D It is really lovely and fits perfectly. Thank you so much! So fascinating that I am actually wearing a dress that has its origin at the other side of the world while it is ' locally' produced. I just started sewing and it is the first pattern I have been sewing with. I am totally in love with the dress and will use it as pattern for other clothing as well ^.^ . Yeeeeeej now Ill just have to wait for summer to come hahaha

Omg love this dress! Do you have the finish garment measurements of the S and M?

Love the dress - cute and modest. Was surprised you didn't use any interfacing or understitching on the bodice facing. I was taught to use both. You are obviously a wonderful seamstress - can you please comment on your decision against understitching and interfacing? Thanks!

I have to thank you so much for this pattern ! I have tried to drape one for days now and nothing seemed to fit me properly. I used your pattern as my base and it's finally working ! Thank you so much, I can finally do it right !!

Hello Janelle, I sewed a dress using your pattern and it turned out so cute! I dropped the neckline a little bit and added tulip sleeves, this was my first time using non-stretch fabric, I have always found it too daunting to tackle zippers and darts, but your pattern was so easy to work with that I finally had the courage :D the fit is perfect and I can’t wait to sew a couple more for summer! Thank you!!
