I would never have guessed Eustacia Vye. She's a lovely rose and has done well for me this year after her slow start. I was just going to ask about your Super Trouper as I've not seen her lately in your videos and then she showed up. I bought her after seeing her in your garden as I love the colour. Can't get over the number of buds on blush noisette. Beautiful. The weather seems to have turned this week and I almost had to put my gardening fleece on yesterday as it was so cold. I had to rip out some of the bedding plants and my hanging baskets are way past their best but I'll leave them up for a couple more weeks. The two at the front of the house will be taken down but the back ones will stay for the birds to make their nests next year. Won't be long until it's bulb planting season. Doesn't seem like we've had any summer but they say the older you get, the faster time flies.

Hi Wendy. I can't decide whether Super Trouper is less impressive this year with its drooping flowers because of the weather (I hope that's it) or because it's a more mature bush now. I am hoping that we get at least another week or two of summery weather. I think it's not our age making the summer fly by, it's just the lack of sunshine.

Bad winds last night here Nik. Sunny Sky had a load of buds on but now flat on the ground despite being staked! Getting to the time of year to prune lower etc.

Wow, that must have been really windy, Gav! It's just horrible when things are looking promising and then something like that happens - even when you have taken precautions. Hope you can get SS back on its feet and some of those buds still come through for you.

Another colourful walk around your garden on a dull day, here too, to cheer us up. What medium do you put your bare root roses into when putting them in pots and do you renew it at all? My two Blush Noisettes are now around 8' X 8' and haven't stopped flowering this year. Cheers! P.

Glad to have cheered you up, Peter. I use Durstons multipurpose compost in the pots, nothing special. Repotting Gertrude seemed to boost her this year and the level of compost has shrunk in a lot of the pots, so this autumn I will have to repot most of them in fresh compost. My Blush Noisette hasn't flowered that well this year compared with its performance in a proper sunny summer, but most of the other roses seem to have flourished this year, so I can't complain.

Lovely look around your beautiful roses, how unusual the colour of Eustacia Vye but sometimes the weather does odd things to our roses I even had a yellow Elizabeth bloom recently which was probably down to the weather. Desdemona is so beautiful ! Your badger seems determined to visit your garden do you grow fruit and veg Nik? I think they they are quite fond of them. We are having strong winds here since about 5am. I'm hoping it's calming down soon, think 60mph has been the strongest so far today, we had to tie a lot of things back and get the stakes out last night for the taller plants, I have a lot of tall phlox and cosmos plus quite a few dahlias, oh well got done what we could and hoping for the best, managed to get quite a few pots into the garage and greenhouse so not had much damage on first inspection this morning, a few branches down and some clematis/honeysuckles have had some damage. Quite a few reports of trees and large branches down round about the area, storm Lilian definitely leaving her mark. We seem to have got off very lightly here Linda - one plastic-potted top-heavy dahlia toppled over, and that's it. I did take some precautions yesterday though. I have about 3 dozen tomato plants on the decking and in the greenhouse, but whereas normally we would be giving away pounds and pounds every week in August, this year we are barely self-sufficient. A similar story with our courgettes in the trug - twice as many plants as last year but only a couple of dozen courgettes so far and the plants have that end-of-season look about them. The lack of warmth and sun has really affected those crops, but I think it seems to have boosted the performance of the roses. Did I mention we have seen 6 badgers at the front of the house hoovering up the dropped birdfood? In theory the back and front gardens are separated by a gate and fence, but badgers just dig under the neighbouring fences. Or maybe there are two different families?

Oh I hate these bugs eating up the flowers…I suspect that young grasshoppers/ crickets do their job on this one rose, they are very picky, at my place they only ate the buds of Crown Princess Margete and Rosemoor…but completely…love your Rosegarden…❤
