Let's Create a Luggage Tag - Quick Sewing for Craft shows with Free Pattern Download

Here is another fun and fast project where I do a step-by-step tutorial to create a luggage tag. These tags are not only great for luggage, but can be attached to any items you need to transport and identify such as your sewing machine bags when traveling to classes, gym bags, etc. They are also fun for kids to hang on their backpacks. They are made from 100% Cotton Quilting Fabric and I used Decovil Light for my interfacings. I use my Juki TL2010Q to sew the tags.
There is a free downloadable PDF file to cut out your pattern pieces along with two SVG files for cutting on the Cricut Maker; one is for cutting the fabric pieces and the other is for cutting out the interfacings. The SVG files were designed to be used on the Cricut Maker and have not been tested on any other electronic die cutting machines. I do have a short tutorial at the end of the video demonstrating how to load the SVG files into Cricut Design Space. The SVG files will need to be unzipped after you download them. They also held up nicely, and still looked pristine when we picked up all our luggage from baggage claim. My husband likes them so much that he wants me to make him one more. He wants to have a matching set for all of his luggage. I know I am rambling on, but they were so much fun to make! Getting ready to make these, so cute! I don't have a Cricut, so will have to rotary & scissor cut. Traced the pattern pieces to freezer paper so that I can use over and over. Making the straps to pattern now, but wonder if they are long enough for fat handles on luggage? Will soon find out, hah! Didn't see anyone saying they are too short. I will use plastic file covers for windows - they come in many opaque colors on Amazon at reasonable price for large stack. They are easy to cut accurately on cutting mat with rotary cutter.

I’ve made a few of these and love them!!! However, I have trouble with the Cam Snaps. The material is so think it interferes with the snaps being able to securely hold. Only a few open and closures and the come apart. Anyone else have this trouble?

Are you getting buckling of the inter fabric for the window after it is turn right side out

I did not have that problem. It sounds like you may have had some shrinkage. I can't say for sure without seeing your tag.

I think I had a 90 Denim needle in my machine when I made the video, but you can use an 80 or 90 universal needle. You can always do a little test before you start the project.

Drape the loop over your luggage handle, then push the tag part through that loop that is hanging over - it will cinch when pulled through.

Rosie's Art Studio PDF. I printed. Then checked size against square. All was right. Buuuut before I realized it I was 3/4 done and the font and back pieces were waaaaaay too big. I ripped it all apart, cut it down and re-stitched. Ended up having to center window pocket on front and stitching it on. It worked but it’s Huge! I think the front and back template is too large. I would love to make another. Soooo cute. I’ll just have to resize pattern first. Thank you for such a cute idea and great tutorial though. I enjoyed.

@@reneejohnson693 Hi Renee...I appreciate you taking the time to write your comments. I just reprinted the pattern from the website just to make sure that everything is sized correctly and it is. Assuming that your test square is measuring 2” from side to side and top to bottom, your pieces should all be the correct size. It is important to measure and cut from the outer black lines of all the pattern pieces. When sewing any project, accurate cutting and seam allowances are very important. If you are off by a little with either, it can make a big difference. The seam allowances for the project are 3/8” which is noted on the pattern. The front and back fabric pattern pieces should measure 4.25” X 7” for both styles. The window pocket fabric pattern piece should measure 4.25” x 5.5”. The front and back interfacing pieces should each measure 3.5” x 6.25” and the window pocket interfacing pattern piece should measure. 3.5” x 4.75”. I hope this helps.
