Burt Bacharach is one of the best composers who ever lived
@spynnmail Жыл бұрын
This movie had a huge impact on me as an early teen. As a young aspiring musician, I was spellbound by the music. Even to this day, I still recall the melodies and lyrics. I even have the soundtrack recording. I see some comments about how they believe the movie was a disaster, but I can't understand why people say that. It was a delightful movie. It just seems like folks are critical just for the sake of being critical without any real reasoning. Some say it just came at a time when musicals were becoming less popular. I am glad that it was made. I still adore this movie, and it brings me joy.

This movie has its fans. I love the Bacharach score. The movie is too well made to be called "bad". It came out at a time when musicals were an easy target.

@@cscarson8798 Yes. I think if it had come along a bit earlier, it would have been a huge hit. The industry was clearly taking a turn - just 4 years later came big block busters like Star Wars episode IV.

Great to hear the complimentary comments, since I was in this film. Had the privilege of being in scenes choreographed by Hermes Pan (Fred Astaire's choreographer), Liv Ullman and others

What an exquisite, lovingly edited piece here Cliff. You have a true gift with editing, (not to mention up-scaling) and it is in abundance here. 'Lost Horizon' was one of the most egregiously maligned, misunderstood films ever produced. I still say our understandably jaded American movie going populace due to BS wars like Vietnam, etc...not to mention the jaded critics who couldn't see past their own lust for cinematic boundary pushing, owe this film an official formal apology. I absolutely love how all encompassing Lost Horizon is as a film, you can't tell if it's a war movie, a romantic comedy, a fantasy adventure, a musical, a psychological drama or a Horror movie. It's ALL of these things, and the film is all the better because of it, not to mention a litany of soul stirring, unforgettable songs which should have brought Burt and Hal closer together instead of tearing them apart. Just heartbreaking, and this film deserves some damn respect not to mention a SERIOUS reissue!

These clips are making me want to chance it again. I remember being aghast at it in the theatre but maybe, maybe I might (gulp) actually like it. I' love to at a least hear the Bacharach/David music in its intended context. And any movie that would give Bobby Van a job at that point in his career has to be appreciated.

i also loved this movie and the soundtrack. My most favorite song was Where Knowledge Ends. It was cut out of the film but was left on the album. the cut film scene can be found here on YT. It was sad to see this destroy the Burt Bacharach and Hal David music partnership. due to the failure at the box office.
