It was a forced, awful, cringe, dull storyline, and a total contradiction to what they wrote in season 4 in the episode when Joey found out Chandler kissed Kathy. In that episode, actually Ross - as a fantastic friend - goes to Joey to beg& ask him to forgive Chandler, yet Joey responds:' Would you forgive him if he kissed Rachel behind your back?' And yet, it is Joey who ended up kissing Rachel behind Ross's back in seasons 9 and 10 and 'proposing' to her. And before people bring up Charlie - Charlie was another of Joey's conquest, never important to him, not as Rachel was to Ross, and Joey already didn't care abt Charlie at all, by the time they went to Barbados, totally ignoring her. Yes, it wasn't really a proposal but all of this Rachel - Joey nonsense in late seasons made Joey's words from season 4 hollow and Joey a hypocrite. They ruined Joey with this. So many fans don't even remember it.

Sorry but that's not the same thing at all. In season 4, Ross & Rachel had just broken up. In season 9/10, Ross/Rachel were broken up for like 7 years. At that point, It's perfectly fine for Rachel to move on and date someone else, even if that someone was Joey

And Ross actually acted like a saint. If this was me, I'd be so pissed, I'm not sure I would ever forgive Joey. Imagine your supposed friend picks up your family ring and by accident 'gives it' to the mother of your child, a child who was just born, and the love of your life, and then pretends it happened ALL day. Nah, Ross was a fantastic friend, he really quickly forgave Joey. And we have to remind ourselves that hypocrite Joey, back in season 4, was mad at Chandler for kissing Kathy behind his back, and Ross was actually the one who went to Joey to ask him to forgive Chandler, and at first, Joey didn't want to and asked Ross: 'would you forgive him if he kissed Rachel behind your back?' - yet Joey ended up doing exactly this! Joey kissed Rachel behind Ross's back in season 9/10!! Ross is just so underrated and underappreciated on this show and by the fans who don't even remember these storylines. Also glad Rachel said to Ross at the end of this episode she never really wanted to marry Joey. And btw, the actors - Jen and Matt Le Blanc hated this storyline too!

He picked the ring up, Rachel assumed he was proposing and put the ring on herself so Joey isn't to blame for that. yes he should have clarified the situation to all parties involved, but ross' jealous, controlling reaction was over the top. Love of his life? She wasn't when he slept with the copy girl, or ran off to get married to Emily, or when he tried to piss rachel off by bringing a total stranger into their apartment where they had their baby. Ross was the worst.

When my son was 8 months in 2010 we went to NYS to visit my best friend from college, CVS was expensive for diapers but we came across a Chinese corner store and they had 3 packs for a dollar, I got 2 packs. We weren't driving, I used to go out with him by myself on the transit often in those days and I would put 2 diapers in each back jeans pocket, some wipes in a Ziploc in a front pocket and a suck bottle of juice in a front pocket and if we needed milk I would buy a pint for like 1.09 and a bagel at a supermarket if we were gone for a few hours. His mom used a stroller often driving or transit but I usually didn't like to bring one when it was just me and him. He was always straight. I used to have him on my shoulders often like when the Heat won the 2012 NBA title and they snuck the float early and didn't give a real parade and rigged the footage so people believed it was a normal one. They zoomed into the arena for a paid indoor celebration and they didn't even come out to the balconies of the arena. They made an excuse about the weather it didn't rain that day at all it was disgraceful and I never bought any Heat merchandise ever again. Downtown was packed for hours and they made the police come tell the people how they weren't coming back outside. It being the Miami area, when he was on my shoulders and my head got moist it was never obvious whether the moisture was rain sprinkles, my sweat, or his drool.😅

And Ross was completely right!! It was such a stupid storyline anyway, clearly just for the pure comedy and laughs. But it was awful behavior on Joey's part, towards both, Ross and Rachel. Joey didn't propose. He picked up the ring by accident without any intention and it was Ross's family ring. I'm fed up with people always only being negative about Ross yet NEVER calling out other characters for their horrible behavior. Joey lied to Rachel& Ross by omission, never clarifying anything to Rachel or saying anything to Ross. Context made it 1000 more horrible: Rachel was the new mother of the baby of his best friend and the love of the life of his best friend. This is breaking the bro code 1000 times over. He had ALL day, to tell the truth, that it wasn't a proposal and it wasn't even his ring, yet he didn't say a word, allowing Rachel to think he proposed, and also never told Ross that he acted this way and that he literally used Ross's ring. If that was not enough, it was just after Rachel had Ross's baby!! It was a betrayal, Friends don't act like this, especially since Joey knew what Rachel means to Ross. They ruined Joey's character with this stupid, nonsense storyline and what's worse they started it in season 8 for pure idi0tic laughs because we know it didn't go anywhere. It was one of the WORST moments of the entire show! I'm glad even the actors: Jen and Matt Le Blanc, hated this storyline and wanted it to end; they talked about it in various interviews.

If you just read what you type, then you explained it yourself basically lol Joey was actually very sweet and considerate, despite not being the brightest. Perhaps he couldn't tell Rachel the truth, because Rachel just had a baby. You are most likely not a woman. Even if you are, you are not the same as Rachel. She was stressed, doubtful and insecure about being a single mom, and it would just break her heart if Joey said "Oh no, I was not proposing, this is not mine. I don't want to marry you.". Joey loves Rachel, romantically and as a true friend. Joey did not know how to tell Ross because he knew exactly what Rachel meant for Ross, and felt extremely guilty for the whole thing, especially when Rachel said Yes. Sometimes, our instinct is to hide, hoping to spare the other person's feelings. This is extremely common in human nature. It is not that hard to understand. Jen and Matt didn't like this storyline also make sense, because they are not Rachel and Joey.
