It's just that the driver era is the two of them writing and composing. when it comes to touring it's pretty much the same thing, except for Ellington... I mean, Rydel was even on keys while pregnant hahah. And they are bringing the G's in on the tour life as well, which is amazing

I still misses R5 and all the R5 songs thow - R5 is my all time favorite band - it's the only band where I can honestly say that I liked/loved all the songs they put out - and I always felt it was something special - so I will always miss R5 and look back at it as the perfect band with great songs - and just hope they will return at some point.

When I saw The Driver Era perform a show on 4/1/19 in San Francisco, it was the exact same band lineup as it had been two years prior when I saw them perform as R5. Only difference was that as The Driver Era the band's set list consisted almost entirely of newer songs. Why not simply acknowledge that they rebranded in order to expand their audience and to give themselves a more adult image? No need for them entirely to abandon their past, or pretend like it was a totally different band entity. They have made good music regardless of what band names they have used.

That’s the show I went to too! It was weird because I basically had to listen and memorize all these songs that I didn’t know since they weren’t officially released. I spent so much time listening to live versions of these unreleased songs from this new set list but the concert ended up being super enjoyable- in fact one of my favorite shows of theirs, but I do wish they would still play a couple old songs every now and then. You could totally feel the difference in energy in the room when they played Red Velvet for that set versus all the unreleased ones (which I now know and love since they’re all on X now, but still).

@@MySweetCreationz I really like the new Driver Era songs, but, yes, it would be good to hear the band include a few more of the older R5 songs in their concert set list ("Heart Made Up On You" will probably always be my favorite). The biggest frustration for someone like me who collects hard media is that none of the Driver Era material has ever been released on vinyl or CD. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that will eventually happen someday.

@@Daniel-415-Ponce Agree!! My favorite R5 songs of all time are Heart Made Up On You and If! I'm so sad we'll probably never hear those live again ;'(( Same with Hurts Good! I can't believe that never got a live performance. Yeahhh, I really hope they do soon! Vinyls or CDs would be so nice, I have all their old ones from R5 days but sadly don't for X or Girlfriend since they haven't done them yet :(

i was an R5 fan and now i love driver era but it seems that there was no rift between the siblings so if R5 wants to come back its entirely up to their choice. i always loved the songs pass me by and wishing i was 23 when i was younger i still love the teen beach movies and im 22.

I feel they wouldn't and couldn't come back as R5. That's locked in with Hollywood records, meaning they probably can't release music under that name anymore. And if it was a bad break from their label/contract, maybe they can't legally play their old stuff on tour. I don't know obviously, but because of what happened to Taylor swift and other artists, could be why. I agree I don't think there was ever a rift but people like to speculate. Driver era basically is a family still, technically, because they all still tour and play. Just rocky and Ross are the the front men/face of the band. I don't know why I'm replying to you 7 months later. I know some people don't like that. But hopefully my comment adds to yours and doesn't take away. Who knows. Ima shut up now aha

I don't understand how Preacher Man changed everything. Was it like " we have this new edgier song for the band but the label won't let us record unless we change our image and band name then distance ourselves from what R5 was." The label was pigianholeding R5 at this time. When it came down to it, they all could not agree on the changes the lable wanted, but because they( Ellington left b/c of the awkwardness of his breakup with Rydel.) love performing together( not the writing posses) fans will see them playing backup for Driver Era( Rocky and Ross's band). Some of the members go off to follow their passions out side music. Did i get that right? If i am wrong please school me.

Sorry I was just looking for any tde interviews cause obviously I’m obsessed. Preacher man didn’t break up R5. So the professional songwriters at Hollywood records actually wrote and produced preacher man and they had already recorded it and it was being mixed and worked on at the same time they began the path of leaving hollywood records and changing their name. Ross and Rocky didn’t hate the song preacher man so they went forward with releasing it as the driver era. They were saying it wasn’t really their choice, they were still under hollywood records at the beginning of 2018 but they do like the song and they don’t regret releasing it even though it was wasn’t written by them.

I wonder if Ross thinks about the prom dance he gave me on 6/6/14 as much as I do. I would like to think he remembers it. It was a very unforgettable how the whole of R5 pitched in. How Riker led me on stage arm in arm, Rydel took video, how they dimmed the lights and put on a slow song… in front of 200 people. If I could see them now I would tell them how much that meant to me

This is a late response but they were still together after they changed the name. They preformed as the driver era a lot before the breakup lol. The main reason for the name change is because there old label wouldn’t let them release music they produced in there garage (the music they put out now). They didn’t let them have control over anything so now literally everything is in control with rocky and Ross. No labels. Just them.

I mean that's all well and good that they show up for live concerts and touring...but doesn't make them part of the band because they are not part of the process whether it's creating music or singing songs. It's not like they are all in the same house writing music and singing and all that like before. Hearing it now it's like most of the band was never fully invested in it all to begin with anyway ad was mainly only two of them that really were which is sad and begs the question Ok, if that's how it was then why form a band and go through all of that for years to begin with?

And it's not the same, the tone, songs..just none of it is the same...nor as good. R5 was upbeat, cool, awesome had sorta punk like vibe to it that reminded me a bit of SUm41 and Avril Lavigne kinda punk rock sorta days of music...the cool good ole days. Now dunno what it is but not the same not sure as like it as much either. The change in tone of music nor the change in line up.
