This is so true. I used to listen to this music like 12 years ago, but it was never in my main rotation - always moreso EDM. Yet, every other year, something will remind me of elliott smith (good will hunting reference, a sad winter's day, rick and morty etc) and I come back to this song and it's just as good as it was the first time I heard it. I remember the exact emotions and feelings I was going through in my life at that time 12 years ago, it's like being transported back in time to when I was on the cusp of coming of age.

I started listening to this song when i was a child, poor, with a violent father, and with out a Mother. I used to imagine my future, where i could get rid of that fcking lífe; today i'm a grown man and altought im not totally happy, i look backwards and i do not miss misery.

I love the build up of slight hope and confidence in 0:50-1:03 only to have it dashed back down to his typical state of misery and insecurity. This song feels exactly like when one is an alcoholic or heroin addict, how 95% of it is misery and hurt and there’s that 5% when you take the first chug or line or shot in the morning it feels like you can finally take on the day with some good happy energy but after an hour it’s literally all gone and back to feeling soul abandoned and crushed.

Elliott is one of the most talented artists I have ever known. He has been my favourite musician since I was 10/11 and he's helped me through some really tough times. My sister once told me that no one else understood what I wanted, but Elliott Smith would have. She said I'm a lot like him, I always notice it when I'm talking to people, especially. Phoebe Bridgers alludes to this video in her video for “Motion Sickness.” At 0:34, Elliott (a noted influence of hers) walks down N Hoover St. in Silver Lake (on the border of East Hollywood). Phoebe walks the same stretch in “Motion Sickness” in a suit and sunglasses as well...a nice little visual callback to this video. It’s almost shot-for-shot.

When I heard the Elliott Smith reference in Rick and Morty, I was ecstatic that my favorite show mentioned my favorite artist, and that the entire world would look him up if they didn't already know who he was. His music is meant to be listened to and enjoyed. It isn't a secret that should be kept from the world, it should be a standard and an influence for all present and future music.

I'll fake it through the day With some help from johnny walker red Send the poison rain down the drain To put bad thoughts in my head Two tickets torn in half And a lot of nothing to do Do you miss me, miss misery Like you say you do? A man in the park Read the lines in my hand Told me I'm strong Hardly ever wrong I said, "man, you're mean" You had plans for both of us That involved a trip out of town To a place I've seen in a magazine That you left lying around I don't have you with me but I keep a good attitude Do you miss me, miss misery Like you say you do? I know you'd rather see me gone Than to see me the way that I am But I am in the life anyway Next door the tv's flashing Blue frames on the wall It's a comedy of errors, you see It's about taking a fall To vanish into oblivion Is easy to do And I try to be but you know me I come back when you want me to Do you miss me miss misery Like you say you do?

Elliott Smith was the greatest songwriter that ever lived in my opinion. Lou reed, bowie, dylan, not even the oh so beloved john lennon have acheived what elliott had in a fraction of their career spans, and that is an extremely extensive discography that remained consistant throughout. Even smiths unreleased stuff is great. Cant wait to see the new elliott documentary!

Pulling on a cigar, sipping Johnny Walker Black (and Red) somehow enhances my enjoyment of this song. While the deep melancholy of having lost Elliott as a present musical entity, creates a poignancy I can't readily articulate.

Revisited this song whilst watching Good Will Hunting. Very 1990s. Lots of songs had the 60s vibe. Like Oasis did. Took me back to being a teenager again. Assove time warp. Haunting

Yeah, his honesty is one thing that set Elliott apart from... well, any other artist in history. You can just feel his sincere and genuine expression in his lyrics, and his beautiful "wounded" tenor voice. I too have trouble fathoming his existence. There never has been, or never will be another like Elliott again, he was truly one of a kind! When I think of the negatives in humanity, listening to Elliott makes me feel like the world truly is a beautiful place. Miss him so much! My best friend..
