I have a pre safety Marlin 357 I bought new in about 1980 and its maybe my favorite rifle, I have owned and sold several Rossi's dating back to the Puma emblem on the receiver, In addition I have had Marlins and Rossis in 45 and 44 calibers, but none in my safe right now other then the 357 Marlin and a 44 Marlin, in addition I have 25-20 Marlin in the 1894 models, if I have a chance at a Rossi or a Henry I certainly would grab it especially in 357 to giive my 52 year old son, its a great utility rifle/carbine in that caliber, I expect in the very near future I will end up passing all my guns on to my son as lets face it I am old and time on this earth is limited and where I hope to end up I won't be needing them as infinity in heaven will be all peaceful and no need to gather fiid

A few corrections: John Browning was not involved in the design of the 1873. It was a direct descendant of the 1866, which was basically an improved version of the original Henry. The 1876 was also a direct descendant of these rifles, just enlarged. Browning was approached to design the 1885 Winchester single shot rifle, and was in the late stages of building a stronger lever action rifle that was also purchased by Winchester and became the 1886. Browning was then hired to miniturize the 1886 which became the 1892. He then designed the 1894 Winchester and the final Winchester lever action, the 1895. Also, the .38-55 was never a handgun cartridge, nor chambered in the 1892. Also, Winchester does still make the 1892, they're in stock at Buds as of this writing.

I have several 357 lever guns from 16 inch to 24 inch. Rossi, Marlin, Browning,Winchester . Fast handling, accurate and powerful. Used them in CAS , now general purpose and are FINE for a traveling rifle, home defense. The 92 and Marlin 94, have a much shorter throw than a 94 Winchester 30/30 action. I have Rossi 16 inchers in 38/357, 45 Colt and and a prof 20 inchers, the 357 is an older one with Puma on receiver, replaced with badge,no external safety. Qualify as Best Buy. There is not much that can’t be handled by a short pcc, and lacks the stigma of an assault style weapon. Ammo is cheap enough if you reload.

I have 2 Rossi M92's, both 20" stainless models, one in 357 and the other in 454 Casull. The 454 was my first and I liked it so much I bought the 357 5 years later. Fit and finish is fantastic, both are very accurate but the 357 is a standout. It must have over 5000 rounds thru it now of my hand loaded, home cast and powder coated 158gr 38 Special, with a load of CFE pistol those 38's are leaving the barrel at over 1200fps. Dirt cheap to shoot and with the cast powder coated bullets there is no leading. I load up a couple hundred or so and the grandkids will run thru them in a Saturday shooting water filled beer cans and 6" steel disks out to 100 yards. I did put a fiber optic front sight on it and a plug for the safety from Steve's Gunz, they have all the accessories you would need.

The 30-30 is lucky to get 2300 fps with a 150 Grain bullet ,More like 2250 to 2300 Fps. 2600 70 2700 fps is 300 Savage velocity. What is worse is that most velocities for the 30-30 as listed in ammo ads are shot out of a 24 inch barrel and inflated at that.
