Gioachino Rossini's opera Tancredi sees its first performance on 6 February 1813 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The typical characteristics of Rossini's music are well represented here: the extreme rhythmic brilliance, liveliness, freshness and at the same time the elegance of the Italian bel canto. The opening overture, performed here in a captivating arrangement for violin and guitar by Ferdinando Carulli, well summarizes these Rossinian peculiarities.
