Hi Ross, I found this year that putting the wild persimmon fruit seeds skin and all in a vertical slow juicer quickly made a fantastic persimmon processed pulp that tasted like the best baby food puree ever. I ate it up with a spoon.

Thanks for working through that. I'm looking to buy some american persimmons soon. It seems like the selected cultivars have value.

Ross, I agree the native persimmons can be good. Many are mediocre being just too small or unexceptional in flavor. Was lucky enough to stumble upon a tree that was really good. Size was larger than average, long ripening season starting in August going for weeks, and the flavor is amazing. Having a distinctly CARAMEL flavor that is unique and delicious. Congrats on your find! Randy/GA

What are your reccomendations for a 5B zone? And where do you reccommend i get a tree? Prefer a young tree (4-5ft.) rather than a graft or a seedling. Do you have any reccomendations on where to shop online for what im looking for? P.s. were you in the USAF? i was a maintainer on F-15Es

Get a prok! You could try just fruits and exotics.

What’s you’re opinion on the chocolate “or darker” persimmons
@Glaudge2 жыл бұрын
from what i understand the "chocolate" asian persimmon is always seedy because it has both male and female flowers on the same tree
@RossRaddi2 жыл бұрын
I had some really nice darker persimmons in Israel. They're an upgrade usually, but the flavor of an astringent cannot be matched. Go for Saijo, Honan Red or Prok.

@@RossRaddi yeah I gotta get prok for sure

Do you know if persimmon trees can handle being pruned back hard to like maybe 1 or 2 feet off the ground? Will it recover or is that likely to kill it? I have several trees, with one that I really want to keep super short, but it's branching too high, so I'd like to just top it completely and start over, but I'm concerned it could kill the tree altogether. Thoughts? Thanks.

Why??
@RossRaddi2 жыл бұрын
Douglass, Persimmon varieties with American genetics are really difficult to keep short. What variety are we talking about?>
@tj21bem2 жыл бұрын
If you do that, the native persimmon rootstock will sucker like crazy! Maybe choose a couple of suckers, graft it w/ your chosen variety & chop the old tree down.
