Rosy Red Minnow Care, Breeding, Size & Setup. You will want to feed them a high quality food to improve their health. They are raised in low quality settings (most of the time). Food helps that.
Other larger fish need to eat smaller fish and that's just the way of mother nature. The Rosy Red Minnow is a great smaller meal for some of those middle size carnivores. Goldfish are too large maybe and too messy. These Rosy Reds are super clean and easy to maintain. The water temperature can be anywhere between 60-90 degrees F.
Rosy Red Minnow Care & Using as Feeders?
• Rosy Red Minnow Care (...
Fish friends HALP and public service announcement- if you have an Aqua One Nautilus filter please be aware it will evacuate water at a rapid pace when the power goes out. When this happens at 2am this is not ideal- luckily we have a water alarm which woke us but not after about 100 litres was dumped into the carpet. Surely there is a way prevent this from happening? Any filter gurus out there? It was pitch black but could see water leaking from here- I've left the dust to show what wasnt flooded!
Are Rosy Red Minnows Bad Feeders?
• Are Rosy Red Minnows B...
I've replaced that clip now but now the bloody thing won't prime! I can't bring myself to suck on the hose as I've been throwing up all day from contaminating myself from water from the turtle tank...
Fill it w water b4 putting top on.u won't have to prime..that's what I do w mine Havnt primed in a year..mine is Aquatop but most canisters are the same,so assuming it would work.. I use a pump on the outlet hose to start a siphon if I can't get mine to prime on the rare occasion that it decides to play up, but hat clip is definitely the source of your original leakage, of course it's going to siphon if it's not air tight.
It was trickling this morning once the power came back on but just assumed it was because I moved the inlet higher to the surface of the water as a precaution if the power went out again, turned it off and did a water change and now I'm here at 10pm in sogging wet fish clothes on my sogging wet carpet wanting to run away or cry or both lol
Any tips on what I can do to reduce stress in the tank now? Filter is running and I've removed some water for maximum surface agitation, 2 airstones running and replaced the 15/20% that drained on to the floor with prime, lights out and water prepped for water change tomorrow morning. My poor bristlenose is right up by the surface and breathing super heavy :( the loaches have dealt with it a lot better than the bristlenose thats for sure. Rosy red minnows care.

I bought 3 tiny ones about a year ago from PetSmart. They are now about 2inches long. I've been feeding them color enhancing flakes and they are so beautiful. Almost hot pink. They are active and very pretty as they swim around the tank

Its sad how these are treated. I have about a couple dozen in a 240..and they are very friendly fish..rush up to the tank top to eat when people look,are always on the move and picking at this or that. Doing everything you wish a Danio would do. They use the whole tank,up ,down,sideways. They blend with Rainbow fish perfectly..creamy Rosys and Yellow Bosemanii's...interschool just about. One thing is..they are sensitive fish. They are NOT GOLDFISH..they wont take bad water, or large water changes without some dying. Great fish..Its just a wonder how they are sold for penny's.

They're not schooling fish, but rather shoaling fish. Schooling fish move in one uniform movement, while shoaling fish just move as a group.

Nice, thanks for the video. I just bought two rosy red minnows for my 28 gallon tank , just to kickstart the tank's nitrogen cycle. If they do well, I might add in 2-4 more so I can watch them school. I think they're beautiful little fish for the price, I like them much more than the typical feeder goldfish. That tank I just want to keep a couple (2) tadpoles in, and maybe a couple other very low-maintenance fish like some of these rosy red minnows. I might get an algae eater, plecco, or little catfish, something that looks cool if everything goes well. But for now, I have no plans for that, it's mainly just for my tadpoles.

I have 3 rosy reds, I've noticed that Zinnia has been hiding alot and not really interacting with Hessonite or Rune unless I turn the light off on the tank. Then all 3 of them go crazy and swim around lots. I thought maybe Zinnia was hiding from the other two or protecting eggs but now I'm not sure. Would you have any advice? Or anyone reading this comment? Thanks

@starandfox601
@starandfox601 8 жыл бұрын
not really.it's only cruel if you breed them so much to their siblings to where they start getting health iusses.but breeding sibling to sibling doesn't owes produce weak offspring especially in fish which can go up to 6 generation without experiencing any health iusses. also if you breed them out to wild type minnows you will still have a good chance of getting rosy reds suggesting that rosy red is a common recessive gene.also the rosy red gene is a odd gene since it's not a albino gene and it has some co dominance to it.like if you breed the rosy red coloration to a wild type one there's a chance that their will be a few with black spots on some of the off spring or very rarely they will even have a strip.so really they aren't just normal minnows and the rosy red gene is only one unique things about these minnows.

No feeder goldfish actually need a much larger tank than fancy goldfish. The person above me is wrong.
@starandfox601
@starandfox601 9 жыл бұрын
gold fish just get to big for those tiny bowls and bowls are bad for all fish and aquatic animals cause their shape has poor surface area allowing for poor oxygen exchange and this is bad for all fish and aquatic animals even the hardy betta and african dwarf frogs who like warm water and plants to hide which a small bowl would not allow for. gold fish on average for fancy double tails are 6 to 8 on average and the single tailed variety get 8 to 12 inches.if not given space to grow they get stunt which makes them become badly deformed and have an very short lives.also if you got it from a feeder tank it can be a gold fish or worse a koi cause there's no true common gold fish.

There are several thousand different types of minnows out there, 'and fathead'-and 'rosy red' minnows both all get grouped and mixed together in those pet store feeder tanks. Wikipedia says- 'Minnow is the common name for a number of species of small freshwater fish, belonging to several genera of the family Cyprinidae.' They are also bait fish in common with those minnows that are called shiners.
