Rosyth locals have 'nae clue' about upcoming green freeport

As part of our series on Scotland's upcoming freeports, we went to Rosyth to see what locals are saying about the one headed to their doorstep. The only issue? Pretty much nobody had heard of it.

The people in Roysth won't benefit from a freeport. It's all a joke. The rich shareholders and smugglers will benefit, but let the westmonster parliament clean up the area, and Scotland will have the infrastructure unplaced for ferries for to transport our goods straight into the EU with independence very soon.

You really need to catch up. Freight is already being exported and imported from Rosyth. Cruise ships and ferries leave from there too. You should forget about the indie part though. Do you really know the meaning of a free port ? Seems not.

@vtechead1 cheap labour ,all the cash goes ro the companies and nothing back into the Scottish economy. Some freight is leaving from there now, but not on the scale the english parliament wants. And is half of Edinburgh not included as part of the freeport. So all this tax and revenue not going to the Scottish purse, but straight to BOE. Why is independence a problem? Just think if a place called Malta with no main assets except tourism can leave the colonial master and thrive. Then why not Scotland with oil, gas, whisky, water, tourism and an abundance of renewable energy, and a goldmine... Why do we need the uk again...if Malta can, so it Why not Scotland. What is the union doing again for Scotland.

Given up with the comparisons to Norway that the SYJs come out with ! 530,000 population compared to £5.4 million in Scotland - yep, great comparison 😂 So freight isn’t leaving at the rate the UK gov wants ! ? So how much DO they want exactly, considering they don’t benefit from any taxes.

I live in Rosyth, it’s been very clear that it’s taking place on social Media and in the community centre, majority of these people likely don’t see the news as it has been in the press multiple times. £200M worth of investment, also I’m sure the hundreds of people that work at the dockyard would surely know abt it

Freeports have to be banned from Scotland, and that is the job of the Scottish Government; SNP, Labour, Greens, etc. If they fail, their days are over, Parties and Independents who are opposed to Freeports can take their place. Freeports are inhumane.

Do you actually know what a freeport is and what it does ? Seems not.

@@vtechead1 I certainly do, maybe you should do a little research into the way they operate... can pay below minimum wage, no workers rights, have their own rules, their own security patrols who are beyond the law of the land, etc... and of course, a gateway for drug smugglers and people smugglers. Still think they are a good idea?

@@vtechead1No issues eh? People sacked on the spot for nothing and replaced with imported cheap labour, having to sign non-disclosure agreements, loss of tax locally and nationally, folks wandering in to the area and beaten up by the security thugs, need I go on?

@@haraldtheyounger5504 people shouldn’t be wandering into those areas anyway. And smuggling is happening at any port or docks across the UK. Yeah just shut them down. You’ve got a good imagination though, glass half empty and bet you’re a hoot at parties 😐 Just close half the takeaways in the UK because they pay low wages and use illegal workers. It’s going on all around you, open your eyes, it’s everywhere.
