The clutch is designed to disengage the rotor shaft in the event the machine tills a piece of debris larger than the machine is capable of processing and pulls that piece of debris up into the housing to preserve the drive components of your machine and power unit. If that happens, stop, lift the machine up, pull the piece of debris out, and continue tilling.
