Rotary Kiln Refractory Installation with Bricking Machine

Increasing installation speed while improving safety and quality are the main goals behind our bricking machines. This video depicts the refractory installation of a rotary kiln utilizing a Flat Deck bricking machine. The masons are seen utilizing the cut-away key section. The three-way master valve allows cylinders on each arch to be individually or collectively deployed. The pneumatic finger-tip controlled keying jack aids in installing the final refractory bricks in a row.

god I hated doing bricking in the kilns at lafarage, I always got the 6pm to 6am shift. I was just a contractor so I was just passing brick all night but damn was I tired when I had to go to my other job. The masons that do this shit are fucking incredible, at least the ones I worked with. we did about 200 feet in one of the kilns and these guys got it done in like 3 days. Awesome dudes.

At least you only had to do 12-hour shifts. Back 50 years ago, or so, we would sometimes do a repair that we could complete in 24 hours, so our crew worked straight through. Down time cost big money for these plants. I remember the plant manager at what was then Ideal Cement telling us that they would pay to fill the kiln with help if it could get the job done an hour earlier, but my dad insisted that we had just the right amount of manpower and any additional would only slow things down. My dad started his refractory brick contracting business back in 1962 and invented the Pneumat-O-Ring in 1966. I was only 11 when we made the first unit, and I helped installing the hoses between the Mac valves and the Tom Tumb cylinders that the earlier units used. We built a lot of these. If I recall correctly, by 1976 we had built our 200th unit and when we sold the company in 1982 we had units in over 50 countries around the world. Good times.
