Great video!! We have 6 sheep rotating on 5 acres of lush pasture. We carry water out but it’s not too far. We rotate on 15 paddocks and it works very well.

This is one thing that concerned me as I don’t plan on clearing a lot of land, just enough space for my few buildings and that’s it. I only plan on getting roughly 10 acres of woodland, mainly because I like being in the woods. Nor do I plan on having a lot of animals since it’s just going to be me and possibly my roommate… Starting off with some chickens and possibly rabbits then moving up to goats once I am comfortable with the smaller animals again. I also plan on putting up a permanent fence around each acre then dividing that into smaller temporary paddocks, moving my tiny herd of 4 goats to a new one at the end of each week….if that is a good length of time to rotate them

I think in terms of "four walls" when I set a paddock. Those are 1. food, 2. water, 3. mineral supplement, and 4. shelter

So far, and from painful practical experience, this is THE best source for anyone trying to manage small Ruminants at a profit. The amount of misinformation, incomplete information and just utter nonsense on livestock operations by "pretend" graziers on youtube is disheartening. This guy has years / possibly decades of experience and I've yet to find him contradict anything weve had to learn thru again painful practical experience. When its tome to. Iy animals, consider who took the time to help you out.

Just to add. We've faced barbers pole infestation and operating challenges so difficult..that had we not taken a similar approach, adjusted for the situation to what he's demonstrating , I think we'd have been wiped out. That's how I know he's on target.

I use 8’ t-posts to hold up shade cloths.

Do parasites move laterally? Like feces dropped in one paddock and the larvae hatched and crosses the fence line, then up the grass in the bordering paddock?

I don’t think so. I don’t believe the can move very far from where the eggs were deposited.
