You might have moved on by now to a different paddock, but you might consider slinging some woodchips down on your lane to help the ground build more organic matter and recover from the heavy use (back and forth from the paddocks to the corral). Fall/winter is the perfect time for this, they can soak up a ton of water and begin to break down/compost. :)

How funny. I am binge watching your videos from start to finish and you mentioned your problem with the reel while I was cleaning. I stopped to mention in the comments about the heat gun (just in case) when you mentioned the solution. My wife and I just moved from San Diego, California to Ohio to do exactly what your doing, but we have not found the right property as of yet. keep up the good work and ill keep on watching.

I've considered doing a video on zones and sector analysis for my property. I did use sector analysis when deciding where to place the garden. I feel, though, I haven't been here long enough to have a good enough understanding of the energy flows of the property so it would be from a limited perspective. Perhaps it would be a good video for a rainy day.

Excellent Grass Man!!! The lady friend of yours who recommended the hair dryer to reshape your roll for the poly fencing should get big props for that one!! So I got a question. I really like the concept of your zoning drawing for the sheep laneways, but I would imagine somewhere in there you will have some poultry netting for a flock of birds to do some work for you. I m getting soon the 164 ft. length of fencing for my working birds and maybe a smaller length for my breeding flock. Hopefully I can run both of those netting paddocks to the 1 energizer which I think you told me that could be done. By the way, Little Guy is very smart Grass. He knows exactly what to do about hooking and unhooking that hot fence. Hell, he is way ahead of me on that part. Very well educated. Keep it up like that and pass on your knowledge bro!

Thanks Bobby. Yes, I will be running the chickens through the sheep paddocks after the sheep. I'm leaving them in place right now though because of the pullets. I put up that fine bird netting to keep the pullets from slipping out of the fence. The bird netting complicates the move so I'm just waiting another week or so for the pullets to put on some more size. They've grown a lot since we got them. And yes, you can definitely run your poultry fence off the same energizer as other fencing. In my system, you'd just attach the poultry netting to the polywire for the sheep. That makes the poultry net hot.

When you go from one paddock to the next you can open the second handle and hook across before opening the fist one saving the step of opening the first area a little back first.

And what type of energizer you are using Grass? I want to say it was the Inteelishock maybe? Is the one you are using straight up solar with a bteery charger built in or does it have to be plugged in to work. You know the difference is the one that needs to be plugged in is not weather resistance where the solar energizer is made to be outdoors and you charge it on the spot.

It is the Intellishock 31 (Premier One). It can plug into the AC outlet or run off of battery (solar). I have mine running off a battery. It's out in the field next to the sheep corral. I am really happy with it.

How big are each of the paddocks? What's your plan for improving the pasture?

They are approximately 80'x20'. I'm feeding the lambs hay out in the paddocks. The hay they spill everywhere will increase fertility as well as their manure and urine deposits. It's not fast but it works.

That is my plan. Right now with I have that mesh stuff attached to the poultry fence to keep the pullets in. Once the pullets get a little bigger I'll remove the mesh which will make the poultry net a lot easier to move and then I'll have them following the sheep

Hey Dan! How does this system work for you? I am planning something similar for my sheep and potential cattle, but I seem to need a lot of reels to make it work easy. Do you feel like 3 polywires for the interior paddocks/lane are appropriate or overkill?

3 wasn't enough for my sheep. I upgraded to 4 which worked for awhile but eventually that failed too. I switched to netting which has worked better but I'd feel ok with 5 strands of polywire

I soak it in water. It removes the anti nutrients and makes is easier for the birds to digest.

I only suggest putting the sheep in the farthest paddock and work closer. They will be easier to move and not stopping to try to graze where you don't want them.
