Thanks. Why MVC and rotating around an arbitrary axis is mixed together is a mystery to me. They have nothing to do with each other. One is nothing but computer science and the other is completely math.

@@IARRCSim No, math is useless if we don't implement it. Computer graphics is not only dealing with math but also about how well we can implement it.

40:40 Oh I see it ... mind blown. That small exercise is great from just an algebraic understanding of where dividing by **w** is the conversion step from 4D data to 3D projection. Neat! rational splines sounds like a fun adventure, i'll have to put it on my list

At 23:53, when calculating phi, phi could be written as, phi = arctan(yv / zv), since xv is 0 for YZ plane.

Great lecture. At ~28:00 he starts talking about "Quaternions". 3Blue1Brown has an excellent video on this concept if anyone has not seen that yet.

If your code is NOT working... You need to account for what OCTANT the axis of rotation is in (atan does NOT work in all octants). Also, with Z positive pointing into the screen (opposite from convention) just flip the sign of the Z component of the axis of rotation.
@michaellundgren69492 жыл бұрын
Use atan2 function. it handles the quadrant for you.

Question: Instead of aligning the v vector with the z axis, could we align it with any other axis? Any particular reason for choosing the z axis?
@nameslastnames33323 жыл бұрын
Any would do, as long as one knows what they are doing (I. E. steps would have to accommodate for the fact a different axis is used)

Does he have the right hand rule wrong??
@breakdancerQ2 ай бұрын
Nah, he's just using the left handed system which I don't think matters here at least.
@rweaver62 ай бұрын
@@breakdancerQ thanks for confirming. The left handed convention indeed yields the polar opposite definition of the right handed one.
