Well done on the instrument panel/box Jeff !! Why not make wood tail rotor blades ? They're rather easy to make /cheap/small weight gain and with a layer of fiberglass probably stronger than aluminum blades and less chance of getting dented. They will not fatigue also. Good to see you keep trying to make things working !!

Appreciate your feedback always, the idea of saying I needed 1HP to lift the aluminium panel hit me si hard I had to find alternative 😅...all this time I was to settle with wooden tail rotor, it's easier but troublesome to make unless if I was to machine it as am doing the aluminium...I got a friend the red t-shirt guy in the video who does propellers so well and has a duplicator machine but he's not available so got to do what I can for now... subject to changes later... Am also changing off the frame to grade 316 SS my calculations shows I will cut 30kgs off...that is worth it

I had Same dream but rather for the Experimental build Kits from fox to Rv by Vans and the UC my Hummel bird to Adams aviation h5 plane...... Thank you let me check out your channel...I intend to build a 2 seater fixed wing after this particular Heli build, it's all done finishing up with blades by 10th and start ground tests... Right now my biggest challenge ahead is blade balancing and then rotax engine gearbox breather hole keeps leaking

@@JeffChoppah My choice of engine I particulary would have used the VW beetle its only 40hp but it has a higher toque to balance of the loss of power due to the gear box and the gears splitting power between the tail rotor and the main rotor blade. Also since the heli is airborne with the vw engine u eliminate the need of a cooler entirely.

How heavy would a Beatle engine be, this rotax is only 50kgs with all its accessories, I make of my machining using Kenya poly CNC machines actually. Yes have built it out of furia helicopter plans I got off internet, the Heli is 98% complete now...just that haven't uploaded all the latest videos

If test only one cylinder, u must close the hole intake on another cylinder.... Because this machine use one carburator..
@JeffChoppah
@JeffChoppah 2 жыл бұрын
It has dual carburetors, though I think each carburettor works for each cylinder seperately...haven't tested the carbs individually, but I do throttle them up individually to monitor effect they have on the engine.

The Rotax 532 engine were designed to operate horizontally, not vertically as you have it installed. Engine cooling and lubrication are not optimal when installed and operated vertically. The Rotax gear boxes were designed to be operated horizontally, not vertically. Gear lubrication and gear box ventilation is greatly affected. Yours is damaged. Proper venting of any Rotax gear box is conducted through a "baffle" ( Rotax part number: 941115 ). Drilling a hole is not acceptable by any known standards. (www.rotax-owner.com/pdf/IPC_582ULSeries_Ed5_R1.pdf). Running any Rotax engine knowingly on one cylinder is destructive to the engine. It can cause damage. Making ANY GEAR out of aluminium is a bad practice. Especially in aviation. There is no aviation standard for this. This practice is especial dangerous. If a bearing seems stiff or tight after installation....I can assure you it will not get any better when operated. The best advice of all: Never rely on the advice of the local "self proclaimed experts." It's frustrating to see you make the most basic of mistakes and that they are costing you money, resources and time. I wish you the best.
@JeffChoppah
@JeffChoppah 2 жыл бұрын
😅 was awaiting your knowledgeable comment...Will check on that baffle part number thanks,...what had seen at aircraft spruce under this part number was an air vent M18 screw ($11.8) which I thought was just as what installed, as u can see in the video the blocked plug is worn out that I would need to destroy it to remove it, so in my account cart that cover and that plug is saved for next time I make online purchase from them Had learnt about limits of using rotax vertically continuing it in this set-up am just relying on the designers of the plans decisions to design it that way. haven't made any gear on Aluminium all gears are made of steel EN9 and heat treated but housings are aluminium. The drilling was a decision I made expecting it would just end my issues currently 😅 and move on to achieve simple hover, but before doing the drilling I checked prices for that gearbox upper half($775 at aircraft spruce part number 15-00710) was a painful decision but, learning and knowledge costs money so spending shouldn't be a hindrance at this moment, as quench my thirst for this experience, it's my first build I would spend way less if I was to embark on another project with all the experience gained (especially in machining)... This engine during it's initial troubleshooting moments hasn't run in that much,.. and how else could we know the issues if we don't do the tests and isolations anyways?... Lastly this build is not something am doing so I could fly it for ever and ever, or do cross countries flights with it, (I don't have a spare life)...all I need is proof of flight and controllability and I move on to another build probably a gyro or a 2seater "Cessna 172" size...as I perfect this. But as usual always appreciated the checks and suggestions I get from you'll... Makes it all safe... Thank you.

@@JeffChoppah I guess the best I can offer you Jeff is that I have made the mistakes you have and are about to make. Helicopters are very, very complicated and that is why not everyone builds and flys helicopters. There are lots of helicopter plans out there but, very few are successful or ever flown. It's all Hollywood. If your end goal is to go flying on a budget. I'd suggest you put all you effort and $$$$ into something like a Quicksilver MX II with a Rotax 503 DC. Gyroplanes may appear simple but, they are very unforgiving in flight. Where are you located?
@JeffChoppah

@@av8tor261 actually initially I was ready and fully planned to start with a javelin..how I ended up with a Heli don't know, but haven't regretted any of it it's been a detailed journey, now I would do a javelin or a quicksilver in no time...but I must finish this one and do atleast ground tests... Am in Kenya nothing is that much available here at low cost

@AV8TOR one of the guys is a licensed helicopter engineer, actually everyone in the video are engineers and/or pilots me included(I am B1.1 licenced) but non is a certified rotax specialist, just operating experience...had also lot's of consultations with a French white guy who's a Rotax specialist, he's my client living in a city that's 200kms away, he's a microlight operator locally, so our troubleshooting aren't that much far fetched.....but eventually it boils down to how far am willing to risk/decide
