Tried playing before, couldn't stand it. I'm way too focused on balance to ever like the server because there is no sense of balance.

Honestly everything is pretty balanced. Most of the UTs aren't overwhelmingly strong. And the ones that are, are also extremely rare and there's less than 10 floating around on the server. The devs definitely know what they're doing, I guess you didn't get far enough to witness it.

With all due respect, compared to the testing builds before the public release of even 1.0, nothing is balanced. Powerful items became such a norm that Prod items had to be buffed a lot as well just to stand a chance. Things may be balanced out overall, but there are too many things that can make the game break slightly easily, like the Necromancer combo with runes that allows you to permanently paralyze, or the same with Rogue for permanent cloak. Don't be quick to assume I have no experience with the server.

My bad for assuming you had no experience with rotf, it just sounded like you didn't. But you're completely right, I do agree with you on perma cloaking and perma paralyzing part. I'm still unpleasantly surprised that a necromancer is able to permanently paralyze some bosses when an archer isn't.
