When I left South Grove School in 1974 I worked for Allen's of Rotherham which was a carpet fitting company and they were based in the Chapel. I worked there for 4 years, happy days.

I didn't know Tony they were selling carpets back then, come to think of it at the very back of where our youth club would have been was some kind of off cuts or square samples that you see in shops, I'm sure there was. I just remember suzi quattro song devil gate drive and all the lads and lasses doing the kicks lol I'm guessing that was 73 or 74, when that closed, they opened the Bethesda youth club at Thornhill next to Syd Wood's house.

Great history lesson mate! I moved from Canklow rd in 1971 to Clifton lane, across the road from the museum. No 35, the one with the white bay window and the silver car on the drive, the park became our "playground". I lived there with my parents until I moved to Cornwall in 1984. Again John, thanks for bringing back some brilliant memories along with the history lesson! Cheers.

Another great video. I know that tree you walked past in clifton park has been there for many a year and also i remember hearing stories of a tank being in the park at one stage.

I filmed that tree it was in a bad state and rotting, I cut it out tho, and I think I've seen an old pic of a ww1 tank being in there at one time.

This is fascinating, and I’m sure we all appreciate the time you took to show us all of this. To be honest it doesn’t look like the kind of mausoleum we normally see in churchyards and the like…no plaque actually on it, or entry way shown….just seems boarded up with green metal. I can understand with the youth of today who have to get into locked up Sanctuary’s for some reason. But after all the man did for people, no flowers left, bulbs planted etc seems sad. Bless you…..keep warm! Snow forcast next! Best wishes from Norfolk. 🙋‍♀️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰👍

Thank you very much that lovely. There's the walker crest above the entry door I think it's the side where I said the tomb was. It was so sad to see the chapel demolished it suffered 2 fires the first it was repaired and used as a carpet shop and after it burned again if was so bad it had to be demolished. It's funny when I was there I just remembered suzi quattros song devil gate drive so it must have been 73/74 when it used to be our youth club. Once again thank you.

Masborough Chapel was were I got married & Christening. Wilfred Hobkinsons fruit & veg yard was next to the Chapel. Walker Steel distribution was well known. Drop forge and rolling mills, I knew that history. I grew up in Kimberworth , Richmond Park Avenue, we moved from the James Street , Masborough area hence my connection to Masborough Chapel. I remember Allen's Carpets used to store carpets in the Chapel building. Have you done a video of the Kimberworth area ?, Kimberworth Comp School area ?

Such a shame it is like it is today, it suffered a bad fire, got redone out as a carpet place, after a few yrs it suffered an horrendous fire again and had to be brought down.

Not to long back that place was a mess. the new owner put up old boards around the site and started digging it up. if I remember right the land was given back to the council.

@@samanthajayjones2645 I'd have thought that was a listed structure as well as consecrated ground too, I must say tho I have no idea over the legalities if they did want to dig it up etc.
