great video's wish I had them at home to keep.Me and my sisters were brought up at our nan's for part of our child hood on the Amos Estate.Loved Amos,Loved Rotherhithe the people our school,St Pauls and singing in the choir at St Mary's in fact loved everything about the place.Once we were over the bridge it WAS Just like a village.It was a safe environment for us kids in the 60's

in 40s dad was electrical super for rotherhie tunnel walked through it many times. when dad retired and lived in hudson florida he persuaded the local council to name street bermondsey street telling them orignal immos from UK ships were mostly crewed by men from bermondsey. we left bermondsey in the early 50s for Canada.

Thank you for this video. So glad you talked about the library. The original library was almost opposite the tunnel. When I was six and a bit I wanted to join the library but was I told I had to be seven years old. Seeing my disappointment the librarian told me if I could read a page from a book from the children's section I could join. I did and became the youngest member ever. I have a lifetime of reading to thank my mother for(who taught me to read) and this wonderful man who was willing to bend the rules for a little girl.

What a great video,was brought up on Redriff Estate late 50s untill the early 70s when everybody was offered alternative housing. Spoke to many of my childhood friends from Redriff days ,and most say they wished they could turn the click back ,we had a fantastic community in those days .u like nowadays. Redriff,Holy Oak,Silver walk,Acorn Esate,Amos Estae,Great childhood memories,i feel bleesed i was a part of it all.Forever in my heart .
