Great to see these eager teens learning from such master artists as rothko. His technique was a lot more complex than at first appears on his color field paintings.

Am I the only one made nervous by watching her move around with that black paint while wearing a very nice jacket?

Do they ever teach brush application techniques in art school? Some of these young painting class participants apply paint in a way that suggests they are not completely tuned in to what they are doing -- sometimes rushing through the process.

I love Mark Rothko's art so much...wonderful that these students are exposed to this, but I find it hard to believe that Rothko, or any artist, would be angry that future students would try to copy his technique in learning about his work.

Rothko wanted people to feel emotion from his work. He wanted a viewer to engulf themselves into the composition, and wander around in the layers. He didn't tell much about his process, because he wanted people to focus on the finished product. Rothko maybe would have appreciated the "want" for people to copy his style, but he would rather them appreciate his works for what they are.

He was secretive about his technique, cos he knew he was doing Best.until now nobody can do the way he did. Nobody. And when people says he wasnt an artist i am laughing. Most of the people think that they can paint him in one day. Once they try, they simply cant.

I actually like Rothko's multiforms better than his "iconic" colorfield paintings.

why are people obsessed with trying to copy when we should be teaching our children how to 'Look' .. how to really look at something to feel the emotion..something lost with the young now in the time of instagram etc.. so you can copy a rothko..then what?..

You just need to get less talented to do a Rothko painting

"Did Rothko ever make anything other than like his "Iconic" paintings?" AHAHAH Love that question.. Dear, the answer is obviously no! When you've got no talent you can make nothing else than the same thing all your life, specially when it give you millions of dollars. Why should you change it when you know you will always have idiots who will buy it?
