Fwiw, before then, you could go to a cemetery and look for a birth year on a grave stone that was about the same as yours. Then get a certified copy of the birth certificate and pretend it was yours. Ideally, you would want someone that died at a young age - to avoid problems with getting a social security number - the non mandatory EABs didn't start until the early 1990s. I'm guessing you might be able to still do it. However, the older you get, the harder it is to explain why you need to apply for a new SSN, unless you're an immigrant. Another ... find a place with a lot of mail boxes in one place and make your own to get a real, although fake, street address.
