Workflow for getting video into Adobe Fresco as a motion layer using Adobe Photoshop so you can use it for rotoscoping or other things.

Thanks for figuring this out and sharing it! It still works for me, just seems like Photoshop handles the Fresco file a bit differently. In the video above at 2:10, when I open the Fresco file in Photoshop on desktop, the Motion layer folder is contained within a Smart Object (which was apparently not the case when this video was made). So I just had to add a couple simple steps to his process to get things to work: I double-clicked that Smart Object layer, which opens up a new temporary document with the Motion layer folder in it. I selected the folder and its layers and brought it into the Fresco file. Then I deleted the Smart Object. Now my file looked correct, and I was able to copy my video clip layers into it as shown in 6:28. The rest of the steps worked as shown. Hopefully Adobe will make adding video frames to Fresco much easier someday soon.

For my fellow commenters: This still works, but you gotta double-click the Smart Object layer, and paste your images into that.

Excellent video thanks! (BTW .psdc is like a .psd but saved for the cloud - "c" stands for cloud", same with .aic for illustrator mobile files that sync on the cloud...)

Can you do convert in frames with other apps beside photoshop?

ive got one question tho: in photoshop my fresco animation layer will be detected as a video layer and not a motion layer folder, do you know why? :o

This doesn't seem to work anymore. If you open a Fresco file in Photoshop the motion layer is encapsulated as a Smart Object. If you double click on the smart object to open it and copy smart object layers into it (which will appear as frames 1, 2, 3 in the Fresco motion layer), save exit and open in Fresco, Fresco identifies these layers as read-only Photoshop layers. I've tried everthing but can't seem to get round this. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I had the same problem! What I did was copy the motion layer outside the smart object (and then deleted the smart object). After that it worked without problem.

@@valentinabettendorff3992 Thanks for the hint. I've got it working again now, which is great. I love Fresco for frame by frame animation as the vector brushes and editing tools are excellent. Nice to be able to work on the iPad. For workflow too, being able to move a project to After Effects is great. Feels like Fresco has some way to go but being able to import video in this way is excellent. Thanks for the heads up.

@@user-no4pw3hn2s Does this still work? I tried copying the motion layer outside of the smart object and then moving the images into it as a group, but no luck, still says read only photoshop :(

Update: I got it to work but it's pretty backwards. So I had to make two fresco files: the first one holds the clipped images and so that you'll have a big group of fresco images, and then I open that file along with the file I'm rotoscoping in in photoshop, I copy those images into the rotoscoping smart layer in the second file, and then I can add motion now opening the second file!
