My mother was a deputy sheriff and she told me about this. She worked in the sheriff dept just outside a reservation in Arizona and a lot of the cases where natives were involved were 'joked' as being NHI, but it was never in the paperwork, and if anyone from the reservation law enforcement came into the case the NHI talk completely disappeared. It was disgusting.

I hate it here. Imagine the fear and hate you have for homeless PEOPLE to do this. I live near a big city in Germany that’s infamous for having a lot of homeless drug addicts. These people would at most scream at someone or something and smell bad but wouldn’t hurt me or anyone for no reason. Many of them are very polite still and are sorry for bothering anyone by asking for money… And the misogyny for sex workers. Sex workers and homeless people are the most marginalized groups of the population, that's why a lot of serial killers go after these two types of the population. And the underlined deeper sadness is that some sex workers and homeless people have mental illnesses so they are even furthermore marginalized and ignored if they do try to blow the whistle!

My mom and I got lost by the ocean parkway and Jones Beach and my mom just goes " you know this is where they found all the bodies the other week" I will never forget that day. I think often times cases where it involves escorts authorities don’t really take it seriously and they see them as runaways. The fact that the killer tormented them and got off by just calling their families as a mockery is disgusting. He found satisfaction in killing these victims. The killer wanted attention and the fact that he kept searching himself up to see update of the case just to boost his ego baffles me. He is sick!

Bad things happen to anyone, but having strong family relationships is something that will always make you less of a target to any predators, including abusive boyfriends etc. If you have someone to run away to, someone to help you and protect you - it's not safe for them. No one assumes that about sex workers. They think they at least have couple of days before someone notices.

Worked in the hotel industry before and I can confirm the police don't take incidents involving escorts seriously unless its suspected underage. Although I did come across one female supervisor officer who felt bad for them and made me release one escort's belongings back to her after she left it behind and ran off on her hotel bill. I actually physically held her at the door until she screamed Rapper so I let go and she slammed herself into the glass door. They always look for hotels that have security, in room safe. To discourage them from making reservations we adopted a no cash policy but they got around it by either using someone else credit card or called corporate to complain we didn't take cash .

Srsly, she's up there with MrBallen, and Eleanor Neale for telling people's stories in compelling and compassionate, ways while still keeping you glued to your seat. Like, I've heard a lot of these crimes told before, but Stephanie has brought a very human way of telling the story and got so many more details and gives lots of focus on the victims, who deserve the majority of the focus if you ask me. It doesn't feel gossipy, it feels like the victims are loved and cared for by the person telling their story. Even during the hard parts.

Thank you for humanizing the victims and telling us their backstories. Society often forgets they're just people trying to get by. There's a typecast or stereotype of of what a SW, especially thanks to Hollywood, but each one was unique with different personalities and their own dreams and goals. In many true crime shows, the focus in jusy on the killer and you're left wondering who the victims were and how their lives crossed paths. Again, thank you for dedicating a segment to them.

Some days ago in Greece a man named Antonis Karyotis was literally pushed off a boarding ramp by the ferry crew at the port Piraeus, right in front of hundreds of people. There are CCTV videos, videos taken from other passengers and tons of witnesses. The entire country is devastated, he was impaired too. He was so loved by his community, and his family is financially struggling now too because of all of this. I really love your true crime videos, you are so compassionate yet your storytelling is so compelling :D have a nice day, thank you!! Update: the murderers aren't only murderers, but racist pigs apparently too. Some conversations were leaked in which the ship captain when informed about Antonis' murder was heard saying "Oh, I thought it was a black man or a Pakistani one so let's just keep the ship going" like WHAt!? The thing I love the most about your way of covering all these crimes is that you tell the victims story and focus on them. Honouring their memory. Finding as much information as you can about them and bringing their stories to the viewers. Sure, with the unofficial, potential victims, you skimmed more, but with the four securely linked, you give them the humanity that crime coverage usually doesn't. You don't focus on the perpetrators, not giving them any glory, which really should be the way all of us go about this. Not nicknaming killers like "the night stalker" or "BTK", but ignoring the killers and focusing on the victims.

Stephanie, can you please cover the case of Kendrick Johnson. He was a 17 year old black teen who was found dead rolled up in a gym mat in 2013. This happened in Valdosta, Georgia. The general public believes it was covered up by the school due to 2 young suspects having ties to the people who run the school. The FBI has closed the case and said there was zero foul play and it was a freak accident. Please cover this case. This case is incredibly wild and it needs to be talked about.

Dennis Raider's (BTK) wife and daughters had no idea that he was a serial killer. Many times, serial killers cover their tracks really well. When one of his daughters expressed concern about the BTK murders, he told her not to worry, that he'd protect her from anything happening to her.

She has divorced him due to harassment but she doesn't believe he done it, not one bit. She also wants to due NYPD for trashing the home and her loss of it. I seen the DA and Rex's Defence speaking to press and gathered some extra info from questions that were being asked. Such as the large doll taken out in a class case from Rex's home, similar dolls had been left on grave sites apparently. I suppose we'll know so much more when the case is over.

I grew up on Long Island and was a child when the news of the murders broke out. My parents were terrified but felt safe because we lived in a gated community (which is quite ironic that the suspect lived in a gated community). To be honest, i dont remember much but I'm sure all of long island avoided the jones beach area (another huge state beach/park nearby gilgo beach) for quite some time. But as years went on, many people went back to the area of gilgo/jones beach where we watched the annual air show during the summertime and it became packed again--as if the murders never occurred. All of my classmates knew about the killer but he became somewhat of a forgotten boogeyman and a bit of a myth that the locals say to tourists who visit over the summer. Every time my family had friends or family visit us, we would drive around gilgo beach and talk about the long island serial killer and the bodies found there (just as a friendly, welcoming gesture). My mom was flabbergasted when they finally caught him and to be honest, i feel like most of long island thought he would never be caught

It is such a difficult decision. My sister and brother-in-law made GOOD money. My sister was a night shift nurse making double pay and my brother-in-law is an actuary at a large insurance company. They lived in a very nice neighbourhood, not gated but REAL nice and quite safe. In 2014, my brother-in-law was home alone and a girl came to the door saying she had been raped and just needed to call 911. He let her in and she shot him and robbed my sister and brother-in-law's home. My brother-in-law did not die thankfully but his leg is still messed up to this day and he often has to use a walker, cane or this like small motor vehicle thing idk how to explain. He just trusted her and she shot him. He had hella PTSD for years but my sister was there for him and eventually they got through it. But that's the world we live in and you can't trust everybody. I'm sure she felt devastated hearing the news but you really can't be overly trusting of people.

Shannan's disappearance could've been avoided if she stayed at Gus' house. She already got the attention and was already in a 911 call. This is why 911 operators tell victims to stay put, so they can send out help at the exact location. But she ran away, unintentionally starting a search that would reveal all the dead bodies. If not for Shannan, the killing spree victims might still be hidden in dirt and tall grass.

It probably enhanced her intuition and she went paranoid about everything that's happening since she's dealing with men she doesn't know. I would also bet that the area itself was giving away a weird vibe since a lot of the victims were still undiscovered by that time. Another thing is that she must've heard about the killings and realized she was there where the victims went missing. Who wouldn't freak out about it? What I don't get is that why would Gus let her out of his sight? Or why did that lady didn't let her in? She basically let Shannan die out there. She could've check if it's a man or a woman out in front if her door, she was already in a 911 call anyway. She could've let her in, kept her in a locked room for safety and waited for cops to arrive.

Someone hides out of sight while some "innocent, non threatening" young girl bangs on the door screaming about being in danger. When the person opens the door, the person/s hiding jump out and ambush them. Lastly, do you really think someone who means harm is going to allow the homeowner the chance to put them in a locked room? Locked rooms inside of homes aren't very secure. They're for privacy not security. Then, what if the homeowner was a psycho and locked them in a room and tortured them?

I’m a live in caregiver for an elderly woman in an elderly community, I don’t sleep well so I sit outside on the porch late at night and by the time played the part of the 911 call where she’s screaming and the elderly woman refused to let her in, I got SO SPOOKED! It’s like 3am here and the street lights aren’t working in front of my house or the neighbors house every since the power went out during the storm. Its so dark you can hardly see what’s directly in front of you, and all the sudden…. I start thinking I hear suspicious noises like someone is creeping around and I’m looking around frantically in every direction now. I start envisioning someone trying to get me, I run straight in but backwards because now I’m afraid to turn my back, lock the door, and flip on the porch light. 😂😂😂

I’m almost at the point of quitting but not quiet there yet and it’s hardest at night when you are awake and everyone else is sleeping. It is a very safe area but I started thinking oh my God, if I ran to the neighbors screaming in the middle of the night, they probably wouldn’t open the door just like the woman on the 911 call 😂😂😂 I also realize that if I were a serial ki11er that’s the area I’d go to, “a safe area” where it’s quiet, there’s not allot of law enforcement riding around patrolling and cameras.

Everyone just forgot about it and most people don't even know what happened and shrugged it off a few days after but our people never forgot and it's all the government's fault. I grew up only a few blocks away from the Heuerman house. I didn't know about the murders until I was older obviously, but around 2011-2014 I definitely felt a shift - my mom was always so nervous about me going to the bus stop for school, and I wasn't allowed to walk anywhere alone. Looking back, it's so scary to think that my bus stop was literally down the street from this monster's house. The day that he was arrested was insane too - the streets were lined with cars and people were everywhere. Almost everyone I know knows the Heuermans or has interacted with the dad. This whole situation has just been very surreal and disturbing.

I went to high school with someone who ended up murdering his own mother a few years ago and then lighting the house on fire. I think it's still to this day the craziest thing I've ever heard. We were friends, he was a really nice guy. And I grew up in a really nice town with a super low crime rate. In fact, my hometown usually makes the top 10 lists for "Best Towns in America." Murders don't happen here. Needless to say, everyone was SHOCKED. In this case, he was on serious drugs (the rumor is PCP) and had just been released from the mental hospital a few days before it happened. I don't think he even knew what he was doing. They tried him for First Degree Murder but because of the drugs and mental illness, he only got like 14 years. And I can only imagine now that he's sobered up that he's probably mentally in his own prison. We haven't spoken in 20 years, but from everything I know, he had a good relationship with his mother. He was living with her at the time. I think he may have been hallucinating and her death was a total accident. But he did stab her, which is especially brutal. I couldn't live with myself if I had done something like that. But to find out that someone you know is a cold-blooded serial killer? I can't even imagine! I know with my former classmate, it didn't feel like real life. I watch a lot of true crime shows, but you never expect to know someone who could actually be the subject of one of these videos. That's crazy.

I guess with the history of hockey, you could argue TBI, but I doubt it. I think he only played for a year or two. I'm sure it was the drugs. Apparently, he had a big problem with PCP. Scary stuff!

When I was 16 my best friend was living with her grandma for 2 month. Living in the house was also her grandma partner, her aunt, her aunt's husband and their baby. I went to visit a weekend. The husband drove us around. 1 week later, my friend came back home. Not even a month later, everyone in the house is dead except the aunt's husband and their baby who were missing... The dude stabbed everyone in the middle of the night and try to go back to his home country with his child. It's been over 10 years and it's still chilling to think I knew these people and me and my best friend could've been there that night...

I grew up on Long Island. I was still pretty young at the time of the murders so I don’t remember a ton, but even still I knew about it. *Everybody* knew about it. I remember one time my older sister got freaked out because she was watching some video about the worst killers around the world and she was relieved towards the end of the video because none of them were near us, only for the Long Island serial killer to be ranked as the worst serial killer in the world and still at large My parents taught me and my sister to always stay in groups and what to do if we ever got in a bad situation. We weren’t super close to the area, we were on the north shore, but still put us on edge and also I have a lot of family on the south shore

I believe whole heartedly that Shannon’s disappearance that night was the catalyst for a serial killer being even known. The police LI department, as many others, even today have been so unfairly bias about sex workers. I’ve heard many officers state “well when you put yourself out there to so much danger, who should care” which made me absolutely gasp. These woman, a lot of them, and even more still, were listed as missing. Yet due to their professionswere dismissed. The ones who ran the LI police department were as shady as could be IMO, and I saw in news coverage and interviews the condescending way Shannon’s Mother and sisters were treated. Mari, however, Shannon’s Mother, would not let it deter her mission to find her daughter, and to give her the dignity everyone deserves. Thank you for covering these victims stories. Everyone deserves a voice, and hopefully someday, justice.

Some days ago in Greece a man named Antonis Karyotis was literally pushed off the boarding ramp by a ferry the crew at the port Piraeus, right in front of hundreds of people. There are CCTV videos, videos taken from other passengers and tons of witnesses. The entire country is devastated, he was impaired too. He was so loved by his community, and his family is financially struggling now too. Those families had to wait for more than a decade to get justice for their loved ones, imagine knowing your beloved’s killer is living somewhere freely and here you can’t do anything about it. Edit, the way u just described the "male" remains, and the assumption of them potentially identifying as a female, the killer getting mad, in turn m*rdering them...i truly wonder if this may have been his first victim.. and it unleashed something deep inside him and it became his MO and obsession...

What’s very sad is that there very likely could have been multiple serial killers active around the same time or using the area to dispose of the bodies. There are different forms of disposal and I question the suicide of one of the men. Perhaps he could have been linked to even one of those bodies and feared that he could be accused of all. Also, Shannon’s 911 call is very telling and I’m sure it could have been solved if the police would have taken her case more seriously because unfortunately sex workers don’t get the same amount of care when they go missing or even when they’re found dead. She is clearly running from someone and who she’s running from could easily be narrowed down- i truly question how her driver was cleared. Either way, the chain of events lead to all these revelations (many suspicious suspects who are likely involved in some form of other crimes) and although it is incredibly unfortunate, at least many of these victims can now be laid to rest.

Can you imagine being the woman who didn't open the door? How guilty she must feel even though she did nothing wrong? Breaks my heart. Rescue was so closed and still the poor girl had to die. And I absolutely love how much time Stephanie gives the victims, makes us really feel for them, show how much they are missed. That's what I love especially on this channel.

I was in the sex industry for almost 20 years & your right , its such a gradual thing . I started with modelling , then kissograms then i met a partner who was wildly jealous of men in the pubs viewing my body during the grams & ' suggested ' escorts as it was much better money & only one client at a time getting to see my body & then the nightmare really began . It's so hard to stop working once you start because the money's so good but selling the most intimate precious parts of yourself wrecks your mental health & self esteem & it's common to slide into drug usage as a means to cope with the work . Before you know it your working solely for drugs , you need drugs to work , to numb your mind & need drugs afterwards to ' reward ' yourself & keep from thinking / feeling too much . For me it wasnt until i stopped that the gravity of it all really hit me. It's such a sad way to live & I wish some people would stop judging these girls for what they end up having to do as a job & I encourage a bit of empathy / sympathy .
