Rotterdam is a city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is in the province of South Holland, at the mouth of the Nieuwe Maas channel leading into the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270, when a dam was constructed in the Rotte. In 1340, Rotterdam was granted city rights by the Count of Holland. The Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan area, with a population of approximately 2.7 million, is the 13th-largest in the European Union and the most populous in the country.
The heart of Rotterdam was almost completely destroyed by the Luftwaffe during World War II. Some 80,000 civilians were made homeless and 900 were killed; a relatively low number due to the fact that many had fled the city because of the warfare and bombing going on in Rotterdam since the start of the invasion three days earlier. The City Hall survived the bombing.

Heel mooi. In het gras van de wandelpromenade boven de parkeergarage zou ik graag 'het bijna vergeten' beeld van Fanny Blankers Koen zien staan, atlete van de 20e eeuw. Dat beeld staat nu ergens in Blijdorp anoniem in een plantsoen

@@SuperDaddyWasabi Nou wat doe je dan nog in Rotterdam(Als je er woont)? Ik vind het een prachtige stad met een goeie mix van oud en nieuw. Natuurlijk zijn er gebouwen die in de vorige eeuw rond de jaren 60 t/m 80 gebouwt zijn die echt niet mooi zijn... maar dat is wel logisch gezien een stad die in de puin lag. Voor de komende jaren verwacht ik nog meer goed nieuws met de mooiste plannen in en rondom Rijnhaven :)

@@thomasbakker7947 Ik vind die toekomstplannen ook mooi daarom ga ik natuurlijk niet weg. Ze zijn nu bezig met vernieuwen en slopen, wat de stad mooier maakt natuurlijk.

@@SuperDaddyWasabi kijkend naar je vorige reacties lijk je toch niet zo trots op die stad van je. Ik bedoel maar, heel Nederland staat vol met ouwe meuk dus dan vind ik een stad als Rotterdam echt verfrissend, met nogmaals de nadruk op de mooie gebouwen en niet dat lelijke meuk :P

@@thomasbakker7947 Ja het ligt er echt aan wat je mooi vind. Ik vind de bouwstijl van rond 1900 erg mooi en maakt een straat al snel gezellig. Maar moderne bouw kan ook mooi zijn, daar ben ik mij terdege van bewust. Echter gebouwen zoals de bibliotheek en het potlood zijn voor mij geen mooie moderne architectuur. Ik vind dat echt afgrijselijk en geen aanwinst voor de stad. Ook heeft de stad nu totaal niet echt een groene plek. Als je Rotterdam afzet tegen Den Haag zie je wat er mist in Rotterdam. Zelfs het grasveldje naast de Markthal willen ze volbouwen. Nu zijn er inderdaad plannen om de stad groen en mooi te maken waar ik erg naar uit kijk. Maar we zijn er nu nog niet.

They are in process of demolishing all the old ugly buildings from the 60s to 70s and putting down new modern and higher buildings. EXAMPLES: nieuws.top010.nl/rijnhaven-gebiedsontwikkeling.htm & bayhouse.nl/rijnhaven-district
