Andrew. Looking good. One suggestion: the clean out you just showed. It would be nice if you brought it up vertically. It would be flush with the top of the ground. You put a cover over it & it will blend in w the grass. It will be easier with clean out machine to clean out the drain....Keep up the good work. See you soon on your next video 🙂

Looks good so far! We bought 16 acre property up in the panhandle with all kinds of crazy outbuildings (barns, shops, brick garage w mechanic bay, 2 deep wells, 2 ponds, etc) that we are gonna be fixing up. We wanted to start completely from scratch and live in an RV for awhile- while we build but these big buildings were worth as much as the property. It has a 4bd mobile with an add on but completely needs fixing up. So now the plan is to build a decent house and get rid of the mobile once we are done. There's another 1bd/1ba house on the property as well. Glad for the cooler weather coming up. We will need it!!

That is a great point. We use it all the time for HVACR applications on drain lines. They have a little temp controllers that when it gets to 35° or whatever temp you want it will turn on. You wrap it around the pipe depending on how much heat you need. Just add it to you list of yearly maintenance testing and all is good.

Another option could have been, if you want to gain wallspace back, instead of a whole wall fir out, frame in a small shower seat to allow the pipes to move over. It's probably too late to change now, but keep the idea in a notebook so to speak if you ever encounter the situation again.

Looking at the soil around your meter location, grounding will be fun. I bet you will have to use 2 ground rods to get 25 Ohms or less. And that is the minimum. And you have to space them more than 6’ apart. So keep that in mind. Just noticed that with you doing the trenching.
@TKCL
@TKCL 2 жыл бұрын
That was hauled in dirt, about 2ft down is our normal hard packed sand/clay mixture. Inspector requires two rods a minimum of 6ft apart no matter what the resistance.

You discovered what us old guys know because we made the same screw up in the past….. plumbing walls should always, always be a 2x6 minimum! On a smart ass note, my favorite comment on water heaters is you don’t need a hot water heater…… hot water is already hot. You need a cold water heater! Just messing with you. Looks great and keep up the good work! Wish I was closer to you. I’d come and do your tile work for free.

I was a few videos behind; wish I could have made the suggestion earlier. Shower controls by the entry are becoming more standard, so you do not need to reach in and get showered with cold water when you turn it on. I have a shower that has the rain head and a separate handheld that is on a long bar that allows height adjustment plus a control that sets and remembers the temperature. None of it necessary of course, but it sure is nice up north were the ground water is 55 and the shower takes 5+ minutes to warm up.

8:40 Is the hammer arrestor the vertical pipe? The air in the pipe will dissolve into the water in 1 week and that will just be a wasted piece of pipe full of water that wont do anything. Need one of the copper hammer arrestors that look like a co2 cartridge. they have a bladder in them that separates the air and water.
@TKCL
@TKCL 2 жыл бұрын
That's it, I don't believe it dissolves as quickly as you think. Had these for decades in my last home and they seemed to work. All I have to do is drain my water system occasionally and refill. Fresh air enters the arrestors every time I do that.

Can't say I disagree completely, but if you start searching plumbing forums and construction forums, you'll see all the negativity towards the mechanical version. Those seals leak by and eventually fail rendering them useless. Then the problem is a lot them are installed in a wall and not easily accessible. I will be installing whole house filters every two months, it's no problem to drain my water system in the process (which I already do to flush) and refill. This will constantly send air back to the DIY arrestors. Less moving parts is usually less prone to failure.
@hendersonhow2andreview17

Another good one!! Glad to be able to help. You do have to have shower valves installed for your rough in inspection. Unless your inspector let's you get by. I would suggest a diverter valve if your doing a rain shower head and a regular head and or wand. That way you only have 1 valve for on/off and temp. And another valve to select which head or heads you want going at once.
@TKCL
@TKCL 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, dang I was hoping to avoid installing the valve until the tile guy can make it.

Set your shower valve and head height at YOUR desired height. Tile guys do tile, NOT plumbing. Do NOT pressurize PVC (Brittle fracture = plastic grenadine) for long period of time. Water is OK, NOT AIR.

Even pressurized with water, air will be trapped at every dead end, hard to avoid that.

Using sections of pipe as hammer arrestors is not recommended. Over time, the air will work out and they will fill with water, making them pointless. You can buy fittings designed to do what you want, which have a diaphragm in them
@TKCL
@TKCL 2 жыл бұрын
All you have to do is drain the water in the home and then they fill back up with trapped air. The mechanical arrestors have horrible reviews online and seem to have high failure rates. I would only use them outside of the wall.
