Use to do a lot of big work. Have pushed a 5 inch drill that was 5 foot long through some some alum parts that were 63 inches in diameter by 5 foot 5 inches long.

interesting noises from the drill, could use more feed maybe?

That's 15-5 and he's drilling without high pressure through coolant. I'd say it's sounding good for what it is if you've ever worked with that material.

@@qualified_monkey8813 you are probably right, I have ran a fair bit of 300 series but even then not many larger drills
@qualified_monkey88133 жыл бұрын
@@kyledombrowski7051 300 series especially 303 is like a butter compared to 15-5 😅

The machine is older than me I'm trying not to brake it on this tough stainless. 15-5 and 17-4 are tough to drill at larger diameters. Lots of torque required.

I thing that trepaning would be faster
@janwintraken3 жыл бұрын
Since the Block ist square you couldnt use a Steady Rest properly to stabilize the Part. Meaning the part would Stick Out too Long and unsupported for it. Also squaring the Part Up in the mill to a Driller hole would bei way Harder than how they did it.
@Sketch19943 жыл бұрын
@@janwintraken You can trepan on mills too but there are many limitations to a machine not designed for that purpose like weight of tool, travel and the time needed to align a steady rest with the custom pads and position the part correctly behind it. Having one axis ready on the lathe just saves a ton of time.
@janwintraken3 жыл бұрын
@@Sketch1994 of course you could but the Set Up time required for a trepanning Tool in a Boring mill is rarely worth it. Not to Mention the lateral forces the Spindle has to withstand with a Core this size.
@zalamachineshop3 жыл бұрын
Jan Wintraken this is the correctest of answers.

With core drill i think it will be faster.

Doesn't always work best. Drill is safer in this situation.
