Beards ABSOLUTELY help protect the chin. Boxing gloves used to be (and some still are) stuffed with HAIR. The beard hair also holds onto Vaseline and water, and obscures where the actual chin is. People who say this doesn’t matter are just revealing themselves as total armchair warriors.

Beards are banned from olympic boxing for a reason. The jaw line must be visible for contact visibility for awarding points. Also coarse beards dont mix well with opponents eyes and cuts. All parties will be well aware of this.

Totally agree, my cousin fought in the Olympics before this rule was implemented. This was a light-heavyweight bout and in the final my cousin encountered a vicious bearded fighter from Bulgaria. This beard was big...very big. My cousin felt like he was doing well in the fight, he landed numerous blows to what he believed to be the Bulgarian's chin. Turns out he was hitting his opponent in the scrotal region and was disqualified from the contest. If the "no beard law" had of been instituted at this time, my cousin would have won the fight and the Bulgarian would have been able to have children...
