I guess I was lucky. I used a flat punch slightly smaller than the screw head. I gave it 3 good raps then used my #3 phillips screwdriver to simply unscrew it.

Do all hondas have the jis screws? I used an impact drill gun to take it off and it worked flawless. Maybe i got lucky
@BigDog500017 жыл бұрын
Yeah many models have the same part number. Sometimes you can get lucky and get them off the way you did, especially if they haven't been on there long or have some kind of anti-seize on them.

Big Dog50001 Automotive good to know thanks for the info of putting anti sieze for the future.

Some newer Phillips are made to be more compatible with JIS than they used to be. Conversely modern Vessel JIS drivers are more compatible with Phillips than they would have been in, say, the 60s. So there's wiggle room there, until there isn't. In the hardest cases, the best fit may only just be good enough.
@dummkompf4 жыл бұрын
were you using a phillips bit in the lisle, or a JIS bit?
@BigDog500014 жыл бұрын
Phillips bit, that's what comes with the Lisle impact.
@thwaller49552 жыл бұрын
use Vessel P3 bits in the impact, you will get the proper results.
@BigDog500012 жыл бұрын
I use those too, thanks for the input!
@kittytrail2 жыл бұрын
you can also use a hard plastic tipped dead blow hammer, more energy transferred each impact and longer life for the driver as it doesn't mushrooms the cap end. goes for the Lisle and any other impact screwdrivers too. been using a big Wiha 50mm/2" for years and almost no mushrooming except a JIS #3 Vessel Impacta screwdriver died from _karoshi_ once, er, twice... 😬 also works fine for euro ski bindings using PZ3 screws.

I’m hitting my new vessel impact very hard and it’s not turning the screw? Wats going on?
@BigDog500016 жыл бұрын
Thor's Aquatics Sounds like it's in there tight. It should eventually loosen up. I usually hit them a few times and then try to turn screw, and if it's not loose, I repeat. They don't work as well on sheet metal as they do with rotors, like say if you are using it on a door jam or something like that.

Big Dog50001 Automotive I have to buy the Lisle impact driver and was able to get my rear brake done thanks to it! Took a beating to turn the head slowly. Vessel fail for me. Maybe I will order the vessel bit and use on Lisle impact in near future.

I find it funny that everyone shows how hard they are to take out, then you all put them back! Throw the damn screws away!
@BigDog500017 жыл бұрын
Lol, thank you for the comment. They are not usually that difficult to get out. I put them back it because it makes it easier to install and if you put a little bit of anti-seize on them, they will come out pretty easy the next time.
@philliprollman74216 жыл бұрын
My thoughts Exactly...im a professional technician for over 20 years and i always throw them stupid screws out i don't even bother putting them back in for a few reasons...1 they are only there for when the car is on the assembly line that the rotor doesn't come off and kill someone..2 it's easier for the next brake job no one has to deal with the hassle...3 its much faster no headaches..4 im courteous lol...5 i put a spring clamp against the rotor to keep the rotor in place when I do the brake job when you put the wheel back on and tighten it down it will put the rotor where it should be...i never reinstall them pain in the ass screws I wish everyone would stop also
