Several things, Dave: 1) If you're gonna crash a drone, that's a much better way to do it than in a bog. 2) Your boss is nicer than mine; I'm not allowed to film at work 😳. 3) The microbiology of round bailing is fascinating: With warm and moist hay I'm sure a lot happens post-baling -- how often do "infections" occur when it's not safe to use the hay and how would you know? 4) I'm assuming you'd rather have left-over hay than run out late spring -- what do you do with the leftovers? 5) I've watched a LOT of your videos, and you always do a great job with editing and story-telling, but this is my favorite so far -- You should ask your boss if you can film at work more often!😎

The grass was WAY more forgiving vs a bog!! 😂 My boss is a pretty reasonable guy…most days. 😜 You’re right about the microbiology! The amount of moisture in the crop, the timing of wrapping (the sooner you can get it wrapped after baking the better) all make a difference in feed quality. Not to mention the age of the crop when it was cut. The wrap takes out the oxygen much like the canning process in food. Much like people food, you can get a good feel for the quality of the feed with the smell/look test. Mold is no good and can’t be fed. If you can keep it oxygen free you’re golden (keeping cats and other critters and pest off the bales after they are wrapped is key). There are feed analysis available to test quality such as protein levels, digestible fiber, micro-nutrients etc. It also factors all the above and gives the feed a relative feed valve (RFV) the higher the number, the more milk I make 😁 Making hay isn’t just something that has to be done…it’s an art. Quality feed directly affects my paycheck… for months to come 👍

Great video; beautiful farm! I put up hay for an old man while working my way through college. He warned me numerous times to keep an eye out for smoke, in the event the baler lost a bearing. Well one day it did, and I lost the baler, a few bales of hay and 5 acres or so of cut hay to the ensuing fire. I was sick to my stomach that day, to say the least. That's farming.

That hitch has been a game changer! Save a ton of trips in and out of the cab. The only warning is you must be on level ground to in-latch 😮

I was raised working on farms. Bailing hay. Planting and harvesting tobacco. Corn ect. Alot of people do not realize how farming is done. And how those giant Marshmallows are made 😋. Great video and your lucky to have a Boss that let's you video. He must be a good guy.

Nicely presented Dave. A long time ago I used to help a farmer in Vermont with his haying . The square bales , plenty of itching,hot July weather, but very rewarding with permission to 🦌 deer hunting his 300 acres. He had 60 head of Jersey 🐮 cows . It’s a hard life but I can see that you love it .. That’s the bottom line.. I have a comment. Where is the bow hanging in your cab for the WOODCHUCKS..HUH ?? LOL

Dairy farms up here are still family farms like yours , no factory farms . Huge difference operating under the supply management system with guaranteed prices. How many cows do you milk Dave ? A vid of your automated milking parlor would be interesting as most of ours have gone to robotic parlors. No old fashion dairy farms up here its all robotic and computerized at every stage of production . You have some awesome fields bud 👍

Lol I'm glad your boss cleared it for you to make this video 🤣. Round baling is definitely much nicer than stacking those square bales in the hot barn hay loft lol. Quite the operation and interesting to see how it all works. Some great drone footage but sorry about the crash. Looked like a soft landing though and hopefully no damage 😳

Very cool video!! I always have loved to watch farming videos.. how does the wrap machine wraps the front and back and not just the round part? It would be neat to see on one video with 1 hay bale.. get that baby at the top of the hill and open her up and watch the hay bale roll down the hill and see what it does when it hits the trees!! 😈 Sorry that's the devious side of me! 😂

700 bales, holy crap. How many cows are you running? I still can’t figure how farming is a profitable business with the amount of money all the machinery cost. So much work for a gallon of milk, dang. Milk should cost $100 per gallon

When it comes to field work yes. My wife helps milk and is a huge help around the farm otherwise. My youngest son is a senior and still helps but also has a part time job (and plays football)
