I have often heard a person say how hard it is to cut a round cabochon, internally I would laugh to myself.
About forty years ago I figured out the easy way to make a perfectly round cabochon, I had this technique on the tips page on my website for years and now that I have access to you tube I can show all a video of this technique.
The cab in the video is made from an extremely hard piece of chrysoprase. This said it takes awhile to go from rough to final 14,000 mesh polish.
Total run time of the video is 51 minutes I would guess that there is at least ten minutes when I am not actually cutting. So this final finished high dome chrysoprase took about 40 minutes.
Final size of the cabochon is 17mm .68 inch 7 mm .27 inch tall.

Old to rockhounding, but new to cutting and cabbing. Watching lots of videos before I start ruining stones. This is the BEST video I have seen with regards to personal technique and inspiration. Thank you so much !

Dietmar I agree it is very nice I have some nearly transparent material that is more gemmy. Bought this mostly for inlay but still top grade.

I'm just beginning to make cabs. How do you get the cab off the nail when it's glued?

Just thinking It would be quite easy to set up on a dremel on a dremel stand next to the cabbing Machine so that you wouldnt have to hold it
