Round Robin | DARTMOUTH STEAM RAILWAY | Paignton, Kingswear, Dartmouth, Totnes

The Round Robin tour takes in Paignton, Kingswear, Dartmouth and Totnes in stunning South Devon and includes an unforgettable ride on the Dartmouth Steam railway through breathtaking scenery aswell as a 90 minute river cruise along the River Dart.
Join me for a relaxing day out on board the train, the ferry, the river boat and the bus and have a look at what you can expect to see in each of the locations along the way.

Truly phenomenal! This is your new 'best video to date' and this is easily the best video of the 'Round Robin' trip on KZbin - there are quite a few but your standards of filming, editing and presentation are way ahead. Last time I did this it was £21. Started with the steam train at around 10.30 am as I was staying on that side of the river. Off the train at Paignton and had an hour there looking around. Next get bus for trip to Totnes( get upstairs on a double decker if possible) Off at Totnes and got the last boat back to Dartmouth at about 3pm if I remember . Once back at Dartmouth 5pm ish had a meal in the old train station on the Dartmouth side then ferry back over to Kingswear. Lovely day out if the weathers kind. Also if you have time when in Dartmouth walk down to the castle and church at the mouth of the river.

Thanks Chris! Sounds like you had a brilliant day! I love that about this ticket. It’s so flexible! You can start it anywhere on route in and go in either direction. I was staying in Paignton. I enjoyed a nice meal there when I got back. I could have done with less time in Kingswear and more time in Dartmouth which I would definitely recommend and would have been easy as there are very frequent ferries between the two but I had a phone battery issue halving filmed so many steam train clips and needed to spend a lot of time in Kingswear charging it ready for the rest of the journey. Definitely a good plan to go upstairs on the double decker. Lovely views! I really want to see Dartmouth Castle next time I visit. I also want to visit Kingswear Castle. Lovely video Louise. A great taster of the area and a good way to see it. I don't think that ticket price is bad value as things go, the weather makes all the difference for a great day out.

Thank you Mark! I agree on all counts! It’s a fantastic way to get a taste of the area and the ticket price really reasonable I think for a whole day out. The steam train journey as a stand alone return costs £21 so I think this whole Round Robin trip is good value. The weather really does enhance it. I was so lucky to have such good weather as it had rained a lot the day before!

What a fantastic church door at 10.20. The Round Robin looks to be a brilliant day out & you filmed (and edited) it so well. You made the most of your time in each destination, your list of places you must get back to must be growing by the day.

Thanks so much Faith! Yes, that list is growing and there are trillions of places still to discover and still to visit too! Yes, that church door was superb and made in 1631. There was some interesting information about it at the church which I will include in a proper Dartmouth video one day. It was a real joy to film and edit. I had perfect weather for it too!😊

Thanks so much Amanda! It was such a spectacular trip! Not too sure exactly what was in the seafood chowder. There was definitely salmon in it and all sorts of other delicious fishy bits as well as some herbs and sweetcorn. It was really so good! Can’t wait to go back to the locations along the way. I meant to say that dogs can travel this trip too and if I remember rightly a dog ticket is £2.

Great trip Louise. I liked the bus made to resemble the train. I have made the trip from Paignton to Dartmouth in my much younger days. Its a very nicely run railway, with superb scenery. And no! I've never travelled in tha observation coach. The bus must be a recent addition. Did your fare cover the round trip, or was there extras to pay for the river trip and bus? Bye the way, you've now become my favourite KZbin lady.

It was great to have an extra pair of hands filming me at the beginning in the form of a friend and also I was able to film it over two days so I got the footage of the train going over the beach huts the day before 🤗 I really enjoy the editing process and learn something new every week I think. Is there a lot of walking to get from the train to the boat etc. and to the shops in Dartmouth? We are looking at doing the round robin trip later this month but my partner is disabled and a lot of walking would be too much for him. Thanks.

Hello! All the transport meets each other where the last one dropped you off. There is quite a long walk from the river in Totnes to the town centre though if you wanted to explore that. The walk to the shops in Dartmouth was quite short from memory.

36 pound for a half hour journey robbery

Hi James, The £36 was for the entire excursion, so steam train from Paignton to Kingswear, Dart river ferry, 90 minute river cruise with commentary from Dartmouth to Totnes and then a half hour open top bus journey from Totnes to Paignton. It was a whole day out. I left Paignton at 10am and returned at 6pm. A return ticket from Paignton to Kingswear on the steam train would have been £21.
