I crossed the Atlantic from Boston to Ireland & then to Norway & the west coast of Europe when I was 44 years old and had my wife and three children - ages 10, 16, and 17 with me on a Mariner 47 sailboat. The kids were a great entre to the local communities everywhere. Your trip is great but is only the beginning of a lifetime of adventures in sailing and many other options. This was 30 years ago and I speak from experience. Life is to be lived and enjoyed to the fullest. All three kids got into good colleges at least in part because of their unusual experiences.

Nice. Your kids won't remember this as they grow older but what will be planted in their sweet minds is a sense of adventure and discovery. That is a very precious gift to give them. If you keep sailing till they are 5 or so, they will have the fondest memories and great pride in who you two are. Thanks for this trip around the cape.

1K+ subscriber LIKE; 5.1K+ desktop travel-mate... carry on. Seems that most people don't remember much about their lives much earlier than the age of 3 or 4. So, the adventures and memories you are creating NOW are primarily yours - while the kids get to enjoy the here & now. That's still a WIN-WIN situation. Cheers & blessings for you as a family.

The kid advice is spot on. We moved on our boat when our daughter was 13 months old. We said we couldn't leave until she was 5. We never went. Its one of my biggest regrets for sure. Our kids do have had a ton of experiences, many more than most of our friends, but nothing like living aboard a boat cruising around the world. Your kids will have stories that others can't even imagine.

I cringe when I see the babies on board up on deck without lifejackets. My little son was in his crib one day -which the railings came up almost to the top of the shoulders. He stood on the top of his tiptoes to lean over the railing just enough that he took a tumble, -a somersault and landed on the floor. When I look at your railing and the size of the child I know they could lean over and do the same thing-and land in the water. Love you guys be careful❤

I even got my husband involved! be safe out there! your both amazing people and parents! ( I lived on a 32 ft monohull when I was 24, currently im 55... and did one ocean crossing only from san fransisco, to hawaii. 19 days. where my daughter was born she only lived on the boat till she was one.) love that your sweet kiddos are getting to experience this lifestyle! looking forward to seeing more! -- Stefani

The fear is a big issue and the fact you do discuss it is really helpful. As someone aiming to follow in your sails, it’s reassuring to know fear is part of the equation. So many people say to me: ‘but I would be scared’. And I answer: ‘What you think I’m not’. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
