Great stuff - I really enjoy seeing the cows come in. They move so carefully and are rarely in a hurry!

I always enjoy going up to the farm and talking to my cousin about farming. His cows know exactly which stall to go to when its milking time. It takes a lot of patients when you are dealing with that many animals.

Nice cows and excellent videos btw. I especially like the silage ones and your self feed system

We grow a bit of maize to feed the cattle but thats it. I have some videos of the maize planting and harvest on here which you might find interesting

Serenity, interest in nature, my love of cows and milk and memories of a dairy when I was a child are why I am becoming addicted to your videos. This video was pure serenity, and you could tell you felt the same way as you videoed that leisurely scene from an unusual vantage point. Some day, when you get more famous, or wealthy, you may want to get a DRONE with a HERO 3 camera on it, and get some more interesting shots, and perhaps of your village as well. A drone following those fox hunters as their hounds galloped across the countryside, through your farm, might be excellent. Or, as you British say, "BRILLIANT!" :) As a milk addict, I have a confession to make. A few hours ago, about midnight, I drove the 70 mile (112 Kilometer) round trip to Houlton, Maine, and back again to pick up 7 gallons of skim and chocolate milk, and it was about 2* Fahrenheit (minus 16 C) in Houlton on the Maine, USA, Canadian border. I had been out of it for a day at least, and it was driving me nuts....LOL Or maybe the other way around? LOL While in town, one of the store clerks told me that her deceased brother used to drink 2 gallons of milk per day. I think I drink a gallon per day, but limit myself to nonfat milk, as I can't afford to gain weight. Americans love their milk, and I wonder if you all in the British Isles are in love with it also? I could probably go to Wikipedia right now to find out. Looks like Britain and the USA are very similar in milk consumption, but the nordic countries drink 50% more than us. I'm getting thirsty just writing this! So I wonder if your family drinks any of your raw milk, if that is allowed, or perhaps it might not be safe, since it is unpasteurized? I'm assuming that Britain pasteurizes all or most of it's milk, as we do here in the USA. To buy raw milk here in the USA, you usually have to go to a specially certified dairy that is authorized to sell it.

These are terrific videos! I really like your style, and the patient way you explain things. It brings back memories of when I grew up on a small dairy farm like yours in Shropshire during the 1980s and early 1990s. I have an observation and question - firstly, I am seriously impressed at how placid and orderly your cows are. I've also noticed you don't have any working dogs like border collies - just wondering why not?

+Christopher Ashley Hi Chris thanks for you comments. The cows are certainly quieter than when i was younger, its mostly due to breeding and selecting good natured animals to breed from (i think). We don't have any working dogs as the farm isn't massive. We did have a really lovely Jack Russell until a couple of years ago but he died and we didn't want to replace him. Maybe we will one day

As you are looking down the alley from your perch what are the buildings on the left used for? I recognize the ones on the right but not the left. Is that where you keep the calfs? And yes I am going back and watching your old videos.

Yes it's a calf shed

Hello. I see many things work the same way like here in Holland. My father had a small farm and i enjoy the videos. It brings back many memories, like Christopher said. When i look at the left, seen from the roof, i see small trees in the middle of a pasture with protection around it. Why is that? I think makes it more difficult for mowing, haying etc.? Greetings from Robert.
@thefunkyfarmer8 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. That is a new orchard which was planted a few years ago. The fencing is to protect the trees from the cattle until they have grown big enough, then the fencing will be removed. The field will never be mowed but by planting standard fruit trees it can still be used for grazing
