Roundtable on the Age of Political Disruption

This is a recording of an event held on March 18, 2022
Join faculty from the Department of Political Science as we offer reflections on the ways on which we are living through an ‘age of political disruption’. This is an opportunity to engage with recent events from around the world as well as in Canada, and to consider what these events mean in a wider political context. The roundtable will be led off by brief remarks from leading researchers in our Department, followed by an open and vigorous discussion.

Why does Putin go to Siberia every year? This has already become a tradition since 2017. According to the official version, "on vacation". But there is also a non-official version... But what we managed to "get" is amazing… At the end of September 2021 Putin once again visited Siberia. Vladimir Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov: "He is really there with Shoigu, I will not name the place, this is Siberia. Ordinary rest: taiga, mountains, walks, fresh air and so on" This place is extremely remote from populated areas. It is located on the specially protected territory of the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve, the area of which is 3,903 km Why should Shoigu be Putin's constant companion to Siberia? It would seem nothing unusual. This is the historical homeland of Shoigu - he was born in the city of Chadan, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the reserve. But there is also an esoteric version. Shoigu is the organizer of Putin's meeting with the world's strongest shaman and a lama from Tibet, who specially come there once a year with a secret message "from the spirits of the earth." Putin communicates with them through a medium-translator. Shoigu is not allowed to attend meetings. Meetings last for 5-6 hours. The first meeting with the "messengers of spirits" was planned in the fall of 2016, but Putin's busy schedule did not allow. The rest of the time, indeed, Putin and Shoigu rest like normal people. What is Putin talking about with the "envoys"? The world will never know about this. One can only assume. About the world order, about natural changes, about the dangerous politics of the Western world… Perhaps Putin will measure his actions with what he is told, perhaps he is consulting on global issues… Epilogue. It is not possible to refute this information, as well as to confirm it. But the fact that Putin is a truly unique politician, who has no equal, is recognized even by "enemies". It's like he knows more than everyone else. After all, it is not for nothing that he is called a "genius of politics." During the 22 years of his rule, he has not made a single geopolitical mistake. Even now, when unprecedented pressure is being exerted on Russia in connection with the events in Ukraine, it will strictly fulfill its contractual obligations on gas, oil, coal… He is the only politician in the world of this scale who speaks as openly as possible and is consistent in his statements. And the level of his knowledge and awareness is phenomenal. Unlike the United States, where there is a "deep government", and the current president is nominal, Putin leads the country alone, deeply immersed in every topic. He probably has some kind of plan that he has consistently followed for many years. Suffice it to recall his speech at the Munich Security Conference (2007), where he honestly warned NATO that in case of expansion to Russia's borders, it would take retaliatory measures. Then they laughed at him, but in vain. I admit that when you found out the truth, you were shocked... If you are still in doubt- urgently look for confirmation information. You will be ashamed that you belong to a democratic world!!!
