Road trip from Austin Texas to Needles California on Route 66, in my 62 Chevy Impala. My family made this same trip in 1967 when I was 2 years old, in this same car. This is a sort of follow up to my video “Dads 62 Impala” I posted 10 years ago in 2012.

I took a trip on I40 to Nevada from NC. Everything out to Texas was beautiful. As soon as I hit that New Mexico state line, a huge rain cloud descended that followed me all the way to the far end of Arizona. I didn't even get to see the state in the daylight, to or from. I was miserable, it was cold, and the rain kept getting worse. I want to take that trip again and actually see more than 15 feet off the edged of the road when I go through this time! One beautiful spot when the rain gave me a break was past Albuquerque, going up some mountain pass where the snow was laying on the ground. My exhaust fell off then, so I got to enjoy the view for an hour while I fixed it on the side of the road. Good times.

Man Lucy looked great on the 66. Very nice car ! Looked like a blessed trip. My dad gave me the only new car he ever bought in his life. A 69 chevy caprice wagon with a big block. We went everywhere as kids in that car. I was 17 in 1979 when he gave it to me and all i wanted to do was sell it and buy a motorcycle. I would give a lot to of had the wisdom to keep that car. Would be priceless to me now. Im glad you had that wisdom. Nice vid 👍

I cant otally relate to this video as my Dad had a '62 Bel Air 327 4-speed in Roman Red. I was 6 when they sold that car in 1972, i remember crying as it drove away for the last time. Thanks for the memories!

I owned a new silver blue 1962 Chevy Impla ss 327 cubic inch 300 horsepower engine. Lovely car, with great gas mileage, and the ride was great. Best looking Impala of all. Thanks for the memories. I drove my 62 from Albuquerque, Gallup New Mexico to Los Angeles on the old original 66, and happy to say I saw all of the abandoned buildings when they were open and business was thriving as well as the large billboards and signs along the entire route. A magical drive for a young boy in his first new car

HelllO TEXAS, I absolutely loved your video. Brought back memories of "Mystery Rides" with my Dad. There's just something about going on a trip with your Dad when your young and your mind is like a sponge taking in all of the brave new world. How can you not love the history of Route 66? It's classic and takes you back to a time when America was just getting over WW2 and everyone needed to go out and explore this Great Country. My early trips took me to Quebec Canada on up the NY Thruway across Canada to Niagara Falls and back on down south through Pa. and on back into NYC. Trips on up into New Hampshire and the Green Mountains and like you I remember a new Motel at the time that was built in the shape of a barn. The old Motels had charm and real people working in them if you know what I mean. Later trips were heading on down south to South Carolina and our cars were a 1968 Plymouth Belvedere Wagon and then the 1974-5 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban. That Fury was a Beast of a wagon, about 5000 lbs and drove like a dream. I miss those trips with Dad and a Big Thank You Texas for bringing back the memories. There is absolutely nothing like a "Road Trip". Safe Journeys Friend. Gerry

I’ve been living in Lubbock for two years now and there’s this nice cream color 62 Impala that I’ve always seen on the road. It’s in mint condition much like your Impala, but cream instead of a bright blue color. Very nice car indeed

There were a couple of places you didn't cover in your video. Yep........ I know you just can't catch it all. Albuquerque is a very nice city to drive through to see alot of Route 66 on Central Ave. Alot of original neon at night and a couple of really good resturants. Check out the "KIMO" Theatre in Downtown Albuquerque, it's on the National Historic Register. As you drive between there and Gallup, NM, you'll find a great section of "The Mother Road" taking you down memory lane through the Area that Disney used as the back drop for the movie "CARS". Then the tiny town of CUBERO. Not much there any more, but still worth the stop. You missed one of the best parts (in my opion) of Route 66, GALLUP, NM ("The Friendliest Small Town in America"). Some great local resturants and the "EL RANCHO" HOTEL (Built in 1937). This Hotel was built by a movie company executive as accommodations for the movie stars and crews that stayed there while making some of the classic Westerns that were filmed there from the 1930s thru 1950s. Walk into the lobby where JOHN WAYNE road his horse while filming there. An amazing lobby that has hundreds of old photos from the stars that stayed there. Some of the best road is the stretch from one side thru the city on it's Westside. I grew up in New Mexico and lost count of how many times the Family drove Route 66 together. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

Never been down there but you've sure got me tempted. Did you do that trip by yourself? I might prefer to do that trip in my air conditioned '97 GMC Pickup. If I took my Model A Coupe, they say it's best to travel at night.

Hi, I am inspired by your video. I was wondering if I were to drive in a 69 Coronet across Route 66 would that pose any problem? Sorry if the question is rather ad hoc, would appreciate any feedback. I have read some concerns about the air con not working and how old cars, not just the coronet but muscle or pony cars in particular would cause problems after high mileage and I'd be better off in a SUV. I am glad you did not seem to run in any problems. Thank you.

Do it, you will love the experience. I just watched all the Route 66 KZbin videos I could find. All the small towns have really cool Route 66 attractions so you can’t go wrong. My list of stops not to miss would be, Adrian Tx. Midpoint sign on the old route Russell’s Travel Center just into New Mexico. Free car museum Tucumcari New Mexico. Shops, restaurants and cool old motels Santa Rosa New Mexico Continental Divide New Mexico Winslow Az. Standing on the Corner Park in downtown The Grand Canyon and Williams Az. Seligman Az. The Hackberry General Store Kingman Az. Oatman Az. Drive as much as you can on the old parts of the highway, those are the best parts of trip. Enjoy your trip, it will be more memorable in your classic.

Good morning, I really hadn’t thought of sell it. It’s a pretty amazing car. I’m the second owner, it’s a 300 hp 327 factory 4 speed with the original numbers matching engine I rebuilt a few years back. I even have the original sales invoice from Holloway Chevrolet in Sterling Colorado. It’s also rock solid with all the original floor pans and sheet metal. I guess you could make an offer and I would have to think about it. I also have several videos on my KZbin channel of the restoration that I did on it.

I just found your channel and watched your entire road trip. You did an amazing job. What I found truly amazing was your 62 Impala story. Your parents must have been one cool couple to buy this 62 Impala SS with a four speed and a 327 under the hood. If you have the time would you please reply to my comment by telling me some of what you have done to your car and what you have done to keep it in such good shape? Nice ride. The 62 and 64 Impala SS are my favorite Impalas.
